A decade under the influence

Tv EN ↓ 213 episodes

We watch 70's movies and do two things:1: We give commentary along with the movie that may or may not correspond with whats going on (we're the people that talk through the whole f***ing movie)2: We give a short review of the film and give our observations, some context, and how it lines up with other films of the era. We really enjoy 70's cinema and want to expose you to it as well:-)

Next up to bat is the jazz singer singer 1980 where a 39 year old Neil diamond plays a young wide eyed Cantor on his road to fame and fortune, only to get dissed and side tracke...

Episode 27 Part 2 - Dark Star - The Wrap Up 24.04.2020

Dark Star 1974 I love this film more than the other members of our decade under the influence crew. Why is that? For the same reasons I love buck Rogers, Blake’s 7, battlestar Galactica, and Jason of star command, I love sci-fi in general and 70’s sci fi in particular. I’m leaving out the list of sci fi films I love more because...............will get to those. Also this film is special, we all ac...

Episode 26 Part 2 - All the Presidents Men - The Wrap Up 05.04.2020

Hmmm To start I’d like a beloved listener to tell us why the director of today’s movie  ( Alan pakuka) gets “special thanks” in the credits for the fabulous documentary ( Paris is burning 1990) That’s so cool!  Back to task at hand.  Today the decade under the influence crew watches and reviews the iconic  All the presidents men 1976 Staring Dustin Hoffman and Jeremiah Johnson...

Episode 25 Part 2 - Breaking Away - The Wrap Up 07.03.2020

So Rorschach ( Jackie earl Haley), the guy from Frequency (Dennis Quaid), the guy from home alone (Daniel Stern),and the guy from fade to black( Dennis Christopher), all jump into a quarry! For Dennis Christopher I would like to say “the guy from breaking away!” but that feels weird here in my intro to our podcast of BREAKING AWAY! (1979) Here is the finest promo film for bicycling in existence (s...

Another 4 Movie Review - Beneath the Planet of the Apes, Fun with Dick and Jane, Some of my Best Friends are, and Hot Rock 07.03.2020

In today’s episode we, your magically delicious DUI ( a decade under the influence, no we don’t drive drunk, we just watch 70’s films) crew, review and rate  4 films  and they are. Beneath the planet of the apes 1970 (yes the one with the hologram from the 1138) Fun with Dick and Jane 1977  (We here at DUI say that George Segal rules, and that Jane Fonda rules MORE!) Some of my best...

3 and a half movie review - Human Factor, Black Sunday, Chilly Scenes of Winter, and (kinda) Night Digger (don't watch this one) 05.03.2020

Ok! Here we give reviews of the human factor 1979 Otto preminger, and the “welcome to Jurassic park”  guy. Black Sunday 1977 John Frankenheimer. Chilly scenes of winter 1979, with John Heard n a guy from animal house. Oh yeah and a lil bit of the  Night digger 1971 starring Patricia Neal. I’ll say this much the 2 I was most excited about here were the worst of the bunch, and new to dvd&n...

Episode 23 Part 2 - Little Murders - The Wrap Up 02.02.2020

Today our crew dives into  Little Murders In 1971 Roger Ebert of the Chicago sun times gives this film 4 stars he writes "One of the reasons it works, and is indeed a definitive reflection of America's darker moods, is that it breaks audiences down into isolated individuals, vulnerable and uncertain. Most movies create a temporary sort of democracy, a community of strangers there in the darke...

Episode 22 - Star Wars - The Christmas Special 15.01.2020

A TV movie Really? Yes really, it’s “special” it’s Star Wars on cocaine, it’s happy life day and all that.  Also there just needed to be 1 more follow along commentary of this mess out there in the world. Your fearless 70’s movie podcast crew  is up to the task. Actually this “special” is always a ruff road, but V liked the costumes, and I was a FOOL to not know until now that the iconic...

Episode 20 Part 2 - Harold and Maude - The Wrap Up 12.01.2020

Ok so Hal Ashby directed 7 films in the 1970’s and your fearless decade under the influence crew is going to eventually watch and report on six of them. Harold and Maude is perhaps the most loved and well known of the bunch. I feel this movie to be magical and fierce and liberating. Dark yet wise revolutionary and also quite peaceful. Like punk rock as a teen this film saved my life. It’s timeless...
