2 Guys And A Chainsaw - A Horror Movie Review Podcast

This heavily-memed, notoriously bad remake of an absolute classic genre-bending 1973 film is so full of terrible dialogue, hammy acting, head-scratching plot holes, and just plain dumb subject matter that it actually feels more like a mockery of the original than an homage. So naturally, we enjoyed talking about it much more than we enjoyed watching it.

We took this opportunity to discuss both the original and the remake, and came out enjoying them way more than we expected. Crispin Glover is his typical quirky self as a mousey guy who loves rats. And then there's that fantastic tune by Michael Jackson that is tangentially related to the original film. Listen up and hear all about it!

This second week of Remake Month, we're tackling the slick 2009 remake of 1981's My Bloody Valentine, which we previously reviewed on this podcast and found very charming. We admit: This week is a very looong stretch tribute, in tribute to Leslie Jordan. It's a "horror-comedy" that's not the least bit scary OR funny, but it's the best we could find to showcase Jordan's breezy comedy chops that were taken from us far too soon. A woman finds herself alone on a college campus during Thanksgiving break and has to deal with a bunch of crazies chasing her around. Man oh man, did we have fun laughing at the utter absurdity of Kristy. Won't you join us?

Barbarian starts out strong and never lets up, providing some serious twists and turns along the way - including a shocking performance by Justin Long. Barbarian is currently available to stream on HBO Plus, and it's getting pretty good buzz. We think that's well-deserved. Have a listen, and stay safe out there!

This action-packed Cannibal Mutant Killers In The Woods flick has a slick look that belies its surprising brutality, courtesy of mostly practical effects by Stan Winston. There have been (to date) five sequels and one remake/reboot nearly 20 years later. Come see what we thought of the film the kicked it all off.

Though she was one of the last remaining actresses from Hollywood's Golden Age, we remember her from so many TV shows and movies in the 80's, such as Murder She Wrote. The Company Of Wolves is a surreal, wonderful little fantasy fairy tale that graced the horror shelves of our local video stores, yet turned out to be much headier than either of us expected. Her performance as the grandmother lends...

And it's timely too, as the long awaited sequel to Hocus Pocus just came out this month. Not only can you watch the movie with your kids, but you can share this podcast with them too, as we kept our whole discussion and language squeaky-clean for your listening pleasure. This crowd-funded unrated indie film became enough of a sleeper hit on streaming services to warrant an unrated sequel with a groundbreaking release in theaters nationwide. We don't know how they managed to pull that off, but our mini-top hats go off to the creators of Art the Clown, a successful new addition to the horror pantheon of ghouls.

It started out as a documentary on haunted attractions around the USA during this season, but became repurposed into a found footage-style horror film. Our reactions were mixed, but there is some fun footage and interviews here of real haunted house attractions and actors that will definitely get you in the mood for the season. Enjoy!

Let's kick off our first week of the Halloween season with a film about a horror festival that would be a dream come true for all fans...if they also weren't being murdered. Our feelings about this horror comedy are a little uneven, but we nevertheless had a fun time watching AND discussing it.

This isn't the first time we've tackled the tricky subject of primal rage, but it's definitely one of the most memorable. Most surprisingly, we couldn't believe how well this film held up today. There are interesting things going on here, and we tackled nearly all of them. Enjoy!
