Impatience can give birth to life long problems. Abram allows the voice of his wife to cancel the voice of God and unleashes chaos into his family for generations to come. God shows compassion on Hagar by meeting her in the desert and speaking destiny into her son. Hagar responds by giving God a timeless name as the God who sees.

God not only makes promises, He binds Himself to them through a covenant to display His faithfulness and unswerving commitment to what He has said. He does this for our sake so we don't trust our circumstances but trust in God's goodness. Abram wins two battles, one against evil defeating king Kedorlaomar and one against greed defeating the King of Sodom when he tried to bribe him with the loot of the war. But there is another king, the King of Salem, one that is like the Son of God who came to bless Abram not bribe him and offer bread and wine, the symbols of the body and shed blood of Jesus Christ.

Living by sight led to living near Sodom–the place of destruction; living by faith led to living in Canaan–the place of God's blessings. Genesis 13 is a powerful witness to the need for every human being to live by what God says and not by what the gut says. God's word must always lead our hearts to avoid deception and death.

God's promises are greater than our shortcomings. Abraham lied and failed to protect his wife yet God still uses him to bless the nations of the world. God does not call the equipped but equips those He calls, matures and sanctifies them to accomplish His good plan.

Babel, a tower of false religion and self-centered spiritualism led by a man who wanted to be famous yet failed to be faithful to the God of his great grandfather Noah. A wake up call to abandon Babylon and join to Jesus Christ the true Savior.

A little ride into what seems a puddle in the middle of the road. A genealogy with names we can hardly pronounce. But hidden in these names we find the origin of every human and nation in the world and a hidden lesson against pride and self-sufficiency–the materials that build worthless towers of Babel.

Two very strong words cohabit together in this chapter–covenant and curse, as evidence of the tension of living in a fallen world that has also been blessed by a seven–fold covenant of protection from God. Noah serves to us as a lasting testimony of a man responsible for God's covenantal signature in the heavens–the rainbow– a symbol of protection and war that reminds us to turst God and fight...

Two birds that tell about two types of responses to an unclean world visited by God's judgment. Noah portrays resilient obedience and a heart of gratitude to the very end, showing us the type of man upon which the Spirit can rest upon.

Noah preached to a wicked generation for 100 years yet saw no one come to repentance and be saved. But Noah saved his family because of he had a vibrant testimony of righteousness inside his home. Like Noah, we can't leave our families behind. We must help them–with our Christ-like behavior–enter through the door of the ark that is Jesus Christ our Lord.

A divine covenant in the midst of chaos. God no longer speaks in shadows or pictures about His intentions with humans but directly says to Noah that He will confirm His covenant through him. Genesis 6 is a call to enter through the door of the ark–which is Jesus–to be saved from the judgment to come.

In the middle of the graveyard of Genesis 5, we see the testimony of a man who did not die but was taken by God because He pleased God. He evokes the miracle of the new birth–given to all who place their trust in Jesus and decide to walk in fellowship with God.

What a difference an offering can make. Cain's heart would not recover from bitter anger against his brother when God rejected him and his offering but accepted Abel's. Yet God shows one more time his steadfast patience forbearance with humanity in a display of merciful justice.

Genesis 3 is the champion chapter of first occurrences: 1st appearance of Satan, deadly meal, first question ever asked by God in scripture, the first curses ever pronounced, and the first proclamation of the gospel. A true vault of revelation!

The day of rest, the sanctity of life, the beauty of marriage and gender, and the tree of life—casting a prophetic shadow toward the tree on which Jesus would die for the sins of the world—are all part of the banquet God prepares for us in Genesis 2.

The story of creation proves God's word can create beautiful, things. If He made the universe in 6 days, imagine what He can do in your lifetime if you welcome His word into your life.
