Tom and Chris
1 Hour 1 Decision (1H1D)
Tom and Chris are college buddies and life-long gamers. Unfortunately, responsibilities of middle-age life are hindering their opportunities to try many of the great games out there! With the help of Xbox Game Pass and its "Surprise Me" button, they play just 60 minutes of a random game and decide if they will keep at it or trash it.

1H1D #116: Lost in Random 06.04.2023 22:10
This show gets lost there all the time! In a fitting move, the Xbox Game Pass “Surprise Me” button has randomly selected this aptly titled third-person action-adventure game. As the final game developed by Zoink before it was absorbed into Thunderful Development, this title has some decidedly indie sensibilities, including both literal dice rolls and card mechanics integrated into its otherwise ac...
1H1D #115: Unsouled 30.03.2023 23:17
This is a popular title for several unrelated fantasy novels. With the Xbox Game Pass “Surprise Me” button to guide them, our hosts are once again faced with something truly random. This time, the title selected is the 2D action-RPG developed by Megusta Games. With a heavy focus on combat mechanics, one might be inclined to compare this with other games that also have “souls” in their names… but t...
1H1D #114: Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty 24.03.2023 27:39
Why romance one kingdom when you can romance three? Our listeners have spoken and decided via poll that this episode will center on the action-role playing video game developed by Team Ninja and published by Koei Tecmo. The story may be centuries old, but this game is incredibly fresh. Available on just about everything, our hosts have booted up their PC and Xbox respectively and sat down to play...
1H1D #113: Gungrave G.O.R.E 16.03.2023 23:32
Allegedly it stands for Gunslinger Of REsurrection. When you see that the title includes a forced acronym and hear that the protagonist’s full name is “Beyond the Grave” some eyebrows are justifiably raised. Nevertheless, Tom and Chris are honor bound to heed listener Adam's (from Revival and Extinction Pod) request and thus this episode focuses on the third-person action shooter developed by IGGY...
1H1D #112: Lapin 09.03.2023 21:57
Apparently, it’s the French word for rabbit. The tried-and-true Xbox Game Pass “Surprise Me” button is in control and has selected the so-fresh-it’s-not-technically-done indie platformer created by Studio Doodal for this episode. Information on this indie developer is particularly sparce but it appears they plan to specialize in creating story-driven games with compelling background lore. Will thi...
1H1D #111: Eville 02.03.2023 20:57
Are you an innocent villager or a vile conspirator? The Xbox Game Pass "Surprise Me" button has selected the murder mystery social deduction game from German indie developer VestGames as the subject of this episode. In this online game, players are assigned a random role as either a villager or a conspirator and then must work to eliminate the other group. The game is full of hidden information, s...
1H1D #110: Chained Echoes 23.02.2023 26:54
Inspired by 90’s JRPGs, one man decided to make his own. Once again, game selection was left to our listeners and the result of that poll was this turn-based, 16-bit-style RPG developed by Matthias Linda. It turns out that if you exclude some of the backgrounds and the music, basically everything else was done by this one individual. His intent was to capture the feelings of playing those games ba...

1H1D #109: Rainbow Billy: The Curse of the Leviathan 16.02.2023 22:07
It's time to bring the color back to this monochrome world. This game may have lost the poll, but the Xbox Game Pass “Surprise Me” button has declared that our hosts will be playing it anyway! Developed by Quebec-based ManaVoid Entertainment, this indie adventure title is chock full of RPG elements, including a host of collectable allies and a turned-based “battle” system. You play as the titular...
1H1D #108: The Evil Within 2 09.02.2023 24:58
With just a glance at the title, you know Chris must be thrilled. In a not-so-surprising move, the Xbox Game Pass “Surprise Me” button has resumed torturing poor Chris by choosing a third person survival horror game. Developed by Tango Gameworks, this selection also happens to be a sequel to a game that neither of our hosts have ever played. It seems obvious that the deck is stacked against this t...
1H1D #107: Monster Hunter Rise 02.02.2023 28:51
Instead of balls, you hunt these monsters with literal swords and shields. Always on the hunt for their next game, our hosts put this episode's selection up to a vote and the winner was this action roleplaying game developed and published by Capcom. While this is apparently the sixth mainline entry in the series, it turns out there are basically quadruple that many entries in total! You might be s...
1H1D #106: Halo Wars 2 26.01.2023 25:33
The sequel to the spinoff that expanded the scope of the franchise. The subject of this episode is one of many real-time strategy games developed by the veterans over at Creative Assembly. What makes this one different from most of their titles is that it sits outside the Total War franchise and exists inside the Halo universe. With the lion’s share of the developer’s previous work designed especi...
1H1D #105: Dragon Age II 19.01.2023 28:29
It took Tom twelve years to try this sequel. The Xbox Game Pass “Surprise Me” button has made some interesting choices in the past, but the random selection of this action RPG developed by BioWare shall prove to be a decisive one. Tom played Dragon Age: Origins and its expansion (Awakening) back when they launched in 2009 and 2010 respectively. Then BioWare dropped this sequel just sixteen months...
1H1D #104: Olija 12.01.2023 23:33
Surprisingly, this has nothing to do with the spirit board. Devolver digital takes center stage once again as the Xbox Game Pass has selected the side-scrolling platformer developed by Skeleton Crew Studios for this episode. With the game's story focused on a shipwrecked sailor on a quest to get home and most of the development handled by a single individual (Thomas Olsson), we have a feeling we k...
1H1D #103: Tinykin 05.01.2023 22:01
Chris is excited and Tom has never heard of this one. The Xbox Game Pass has led our hosts to a number of games published by tinyBuild, but this is the first time they are tackling a game crafted by the French indie developer Splashteam. In this action-adventure platformer, players take on the role of Milo as he collects hundreds of cute little critters and uses their powers to solve puzzles and u...
THRILLING THIRTY-TWO: Volume Two: Part Three 29.12.2022 45:36
The Epic Grand Finale Head-to-Head Battle featuring Welcome To GAMECORP! Can you guess who we brought on to solve the debate of Dead Space 2 versus Bugsnax? The answer is in the absurd subtitle of this episode, but there's also a little bit of an asterisk there. On this special episode, we have Jake, Cowboy and JB from "Welcome to GAMECORP" joining us to determine which game is the grand champion....
1H1D #102: Let's Build A Zoo 22.12.2022 24:22
This game is not based on that film with the similar sounding title. The Xbox Game Pass “Surprise Me” button has decided it is time to manage a zoo once again. This time, however, it has selected the retro-styled simulation sandbox developed by Springloaded. Like the retro zoo simulation games that inspired it, this title has you managing the staff, attractions, and amenities of your own custom-bu...
1H1D #101: Exo One 15.12.2022 18:01
Is this the lost alien child of Journey and Marble Madness? Earning its name, the Xbox Game Pass “Surprise Me” button has made an eccentric choice for this episode. This dubiously categorized “sci-fi adventure game” developed by Exbleative revolves around an alien spacecraft that must traverse different planets on a journey toward an unclear objective. The worlds themselves are procedurally genera...
1H1D #100: Vampire Survivors 08.12.2022 23:01
Would you believe surviving is impossible and there are no vampires? The show has reached episode 100 and it seems only fitting that the game chosen for this landmark episode is another roguelike! Can you feel how thrilled Chris must be with this turn of events? The show must go on and in this roguelike side-scroller developed by Luca Galante, the player is tasked with surviving as long as possibl...
1H1D #99: Frog Detective: The Entire Mystery 01.12.2022 20:51
The complete trilogy starring a frog and his trusty magnifying glass. The Xbox Game Pass library is full of indies and oddities that could easily be overlooked. Fortunately for you, dear listener, our hosts are honor bound to investigate these titles when fate selects them. On the docket for this particular episode is the first-person comedy adventure trilogy designed and crafted by Grace Bruxner....
THRILLING THIRTY-TWO: Volume Two: Part Two 24.11.2022 47:13
The second half of our second thirty-two... so basically the fifth sixteen? Are you ready for part deux? Thirty-two games all at once was sixteen too many, so this time we split the field of competitors in half. On this special episode, we have Eric from The Unlockables joining us to tackle the games that we played from episodes 65 to 80 here on 1H1D. Eric's votes are sure to come in handy when To...
1H1D #98: Hardspace: Shipbreaker 18.11.2022 24:12
Breaking ships in space is hard work and apparently also a game. Tom and Chris take on listener request Dave Jackson from Tales From the Backlog and attempt the “action-adventure” simulation developed by Blackbird Interactive for this episode. After their day jobs, they each must boot up their gaming machine of choice and begin their second shift by chopping up spaceships. Will this game loop make...
1H1D #97: Serious Sam 4 10.11.2022 22:29
This a prequel to a prequel and clearly named ironically. Based on the last couple of picks, the Xbox Game Pass "Surprise Me" button must have caught on to Tom's love of alliteration. It also seems to have grown a heart, as this fourth numbered title is actually the first in the timeline of Croteam's first-person shooter franchise. Does this mean that our hosts will get a solid idea of the setting...
1H1D #96: Dicey Dungeons 03.11.2022 26:44
One of the D's is Dungeons, but the other isn't Dragons. Trust in the almighty Xbox Game Pass "Surprise Me" button and ye shall be rewarded... apparently. The pick for this episode is the deck-building dungeon-crawler developed by Terry Cavanagh that utilizes the most classic random number generator to determine outcomes of its turn-based encounters. The deck-building portion ensures that the game...
THRILLING THIRTY-TWO: Volume Two: Part One 27.10.2022 38:52
It's time for another thirty-two... but not all at once! Attempting to recap thirty-two games last time nearly broke us, so this time we are using our noggins by preemptively breaking the field in half and doing sixteen at a time. On this special episode, we have Todd from Secret Friends Unite joining us to tackle the games that we played from episodes 49 to 64 here on 1H1D. Todd may not hav...
