Memory can be a very helpful asset- it allows us to think and do things 'automatically' without having to consciously think through everything. But memory can also be a burden to us if we keep mulling over our past sins and failures. For these times, let us remember our loving Savior and HIs forgiveness!

Even God is grieved by the sin he observes in his creation and the hurt it brings upon his people. He is not immune to the pain and suffering of our sinful world.

Today's message concentrates on the truth that the trials that come our way are not unique to us as believers. Everyone, including unbelievers have trials. What is unique, however, is that for believers, God is in the trial to assure that we are not destroyed by it, but instead, come out strong than when we began.

The Apostle John wrote to a church to encourage them, but a leader of the church, Diotrephes, refused to acknowledge John and his letter, and in addition kicked people out of the church who disagreed with his harsh treatment of the brethren. The church had no choice but to remove Diotrephes from membership because of his unrepentant, sinful behavior.

The Apostle John closes out his letter by charging Jesus’ followers to be people of prayer. But he does not simply say, “pray.” No, he informs us what not to pray for, and what to pray for, and he assures us of answered prayer if what we ask of God is in agreement with God’s will made known by his word.
