Spoiler alert: Birds are killed, animals can talk, even animals can be shitty parents sometimes, and somehow this is something both stories have in common. Syd tells a super long Latvian folk tale about 2 brothers and then their sons (aka the other 2 brothers). Apparently there's always one nice brother and one shitty one, but don't worry there's really no consequences for anyone. Delaney tells a...

First the worst, second the best? If you too have been personally traumatized by reading My Sweet Audrina you are not alone and may be eligible for compensation. Please email bookcultpodcast@gmail.com to share your experience with V.C. Andrews' most bonkers book. This book has the worst ending in all of literature history but somehow it is both Sydney's favorite and least favorite book. The twist...

Today we talk about the fun world of depression medication because we read Prozac Nation. As with any discussion of mental illness we get into the best ice skating movies of the early 2000s and the best horse movies (aka Racing Stripes). Is Reaganomics the reason everyone is depressed now? Idk but fuck Ronald Reagan. Let us know if you are team Noah or team Doctor Sterling or just can't choose. Al...

Who is smarter, Delaney or a horse? It’s Story Time kids, sit down and buckle up. Sydney somehow still can’t say Roald Dahl, a kid gets an "imaginary" friend and her mom goes apeshit, Athena jumps out of Zeus' head and then gives the city of Athens an olive tree. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bookcult/support Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/book-c...

It's Friday the 13th and we got some spooooooky stories to celebrate. Our audio got all kinds of messed up trying to record this so you know it's extra haunted. Courtney did it??? This week we talk about Love & Death: The Murder of Kurt Cobain by Ian Halperin and Max Wallace. Is this episode just us discussing a conspiracy theory? Kind of. Does everyone in this book just openly admit to selling drugs? You bet. Is Sydney really into Nirvana? Does Delaney bring up that one time she took a forensics class? Listen to find out.  Send us an email with your thou...

Poe's death might just be his best mystery. Listen to hear all the 'ruffian' related conspiracy theories behind the famous authors demise. Also he married his young cousin which is not okay man. Frogs and Ghosts!!! Today Sydney tells a ghost story written by Roald Dahl where a writer gets hate mail and Delaney reads the least traumatic Grimm's Fairytale where a frog is the victim of domestic violence. Are you team Youngest Princess or team Faithful Henry? And honestly do either deserve this frog? I mean the guy seriously demands to sleep in a child's bed, not cool froggy. Don't forget to...

hey kid u wanna do some drugs?? Probably not after reading this book and that's the point. This not-so-true diary of a 15 year old girl is tragic and wild and is pretty much the D.A.R.E. program in book form. We hope you like it as much as this girl likes LSD and teen rebellion.  Please send us your book recommendations to bookcultpodcast@gmail.com --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bookc...

Did you know that a psychic predicted the sinking of the Titanic 14 years before it happened? While the author might deny he is a witch, the details of "The Titan" are a little too similar for most people's comfort. It’s a cult! This episode we talk about a whack society that has no weather or color but never explains how. Are they actually a Nazi cult? Some may say yes but overall only one man knowing about pain and suffering might not be the best idea. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bookcult/support Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/book-cult--5718878/support...

Pig blood and teenagers, what could go wrong? A lot apparently. Listen to hear about Stephen King's first novel, Carrie and more importantly the 76' and 2013 movie versions of the novel. While Carrie is for sure not a superhero, it is hard to call her a villain. Some of these teens had it coming is all I'm saying. War, aliens and Sydney's second favorite Kurt. This week we cover Slaughterhouse-Five, a wild book about a POW who also is abducted by aliens. Billy Pilgrim has truly done it all. If we were better podcast hosts we could tell you how much of this book is based on true events but we aren't so I can only guarantee that World War II is real but according to the government aliens have not come to eart...

This book has it all and by it all I mean people escaping from the same guy over and over again. If you like the idea of books coming to life then the book Inkheart is for you. Listen to Delaney and Sydney realize that they actually only remember the sequel and somehow talk about Fifty Shades of Grey during this episode of a children's book.  Send us an email with your book recommendations to book...

He's into parkour, she's stuck inside her house with an autoimmune disease, can I make it anymore obvious? This week we're covering Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon, so get ready for some plot twist spoilers. Sydney thinks this is another Romeo and Juliet, and Delaney thinks it's Flowers in the attic without the incest. It is really just another great YA novel, so listen up boys and girls you...

This episode we discuss the infamous book "If I Did It" by OJ Simpson where he gives a detailed (and hypothetical) account of how he murdered his ex wife, Nicole Brown, and her friend Ron Goldman. We will never know if OJ really did it but this book is insane regardless so listen to Sydney and Delaney try to figure out why anyone thought writing this would be a good idea. --- Support this podcast:...

This episode we're covering Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers by Mary Roach. Are you an organ donor? Have you ever thought about what's going to happen to your body when you die?
