Hi everyone, This piece was composed and recorded yesterday, inspired by an evening walk I had with friends a week ago in Gent, Belgium. After a meal at an Italian restaurant (owned by an amazing chef from southern Italy), my friends and musical collaborators Sarah Yu Zeebroek and Geoffrey Burton took me for a stroll. In the gorgeous medieval city of Gent (also spelled Ghent), many offices, homes...

#943 — Nine full years 九年 23.02.2024 7:33
Hi everyone, This piece was created and recorded yesterday February 22, 2024. Nine years ago on this day, my husband and I and our two babies moved to the United State from Beijing, China. Our daughter was two and half years old, and our son was only three months old. It has been an amazing nine years making Nashville our home. My parents also joined us from China just before the pandemic, and the...
#939 — The green fuse 小龙绿盈盈 19.02.2024 6:30
Happy Monday everyone, I created and recorded this three-track guzheng composition yesterday inspired by the spring energy in the forest. Everything is coming back to life. Last week, I saw a frozen snake waking up from hibernation. It just lay there not moving (in photo) waiting to become softer and warmer. What a process one’s life can be! “The plan for the year lies in the spring” 一年之计在于...
#934 — A pendulum 筝摆 12.02.2024 8:53
Hi everyone, This guzheng étude was created and recorded yesterday. I designed a new scale to try different tone colors. My hands played an octave apart mostly striking the same pitches with occasional different pitches. When the pitch changed unexpectedly, there was a delayed surprise in my hearing. At the same second, it triggered me to shift volume from one hand to the other. I felt like a pend...

#924 — The cold line 一线天 22.01.2024 5:51
Yesterday, I hiked up the hill in the morning at the lowest temperature that I have ever experienced in Nashville: -14 Celsius or 6.8 degrees Fahrenheit. It was beautiful to see the white forest under the sun and the clouds (photo below). I stood at this spot and thought about the rewards of doing something difficult. I hope this piece brings you a moment of joy. My Canada debut is coming up next...

#915 — The Milky Way has fallen down 银河落九天 | Concert venue in Canada corrected 08.01.2024 5:53
Hi everyone, I composed this multitrack guzheng piece yesterday, performed by me. I was inspired by a poem written by Li Bai (701 - 762 A.D.), one of the most famous Chinese poets from the Tang Dynasty. The poem is called The Waterfall of Mount Lu 望廬山瀑布: 日照香爐生紫煙,遙望瀑布掛前川。 飛流直下三千尺,疑是銀河落九天。 My translation: Sunlight shines on the incense burner and illuminates its...

This solo guzheng improvisation was recorded yesterday, twelve hours after a massive tornado that tore across middle-north Tennessee. I was driving to pick up my daughter from a friend’s house when the state-w...
