There are six things that the Lord hates,      seven that are an abomination to him:  haughty eyes, a lying tongue,      and hands that shed innocent blood,  a heart that devises wicked plans,      feet that make haste to run to evil,  a false witness who breathes out lies,      and one who sows discord among brothers. (Proverbs 6:16-19) Father, you are not neutral. You love what is good and you h...

Go to the ant, O sluggard;      consider her ways, and be wise.  Without having any chief,      officer, or ruler,  she prepares her bread in summer      and gathers her food in harvest.  How long will you lie there, O sluggard?      When will you arise from your sleep?  A little sleep, a little slumber,      a little folding of the hands to rest,  and poverty will come upon you like a robber,    ...

For a man’s ways are before the eyes of the Lord,      and he ponders all his paths.  The iniquities of the wicked ensnare him,      and he is held fast in the cords of his sin.  He dies for lack of discipline,      and because of his great folly he is led astray. (Proverbs 5:21-23) Father, you see everything our young people do — not to catch them, but because you never look away from the ones yo...

My son, be attentive to my wisdom;      incline your ear to my understanding,  that you may keep discretion,      and your lips may guard knowledge.  For the lips of a forbidden woman drip honey,      and her speech is smoother than oil,  but in the end she is bitter as wormwood,      sharp as a two-edged sword. (Proverbs 5:1-4) Father, plenty of voices promise our young people love, belonging, an...

Keep your heart with all vigilance,      for from it flow the springs of life.  Put away from you crooked speech,      and put devious talk far from you.  Let your eyes look directly forward,      and your gaze be straight before you.  Ponder the path of your feet;      then all your ways will be sure.  Do not swerve to the right or to the left;      turn your foot away from evil. (Proverbs 4:23-2...

My son, be attentive to my words;      incline your ear to my sayings.  Let them not escape from your sight;      keep them within your heart.  For they are life to those who find them,      and healing to all their flesh. (Proverbs 4:20-22) Lord, your Word isn’t just good advice; you call it life and healing. I pray that ______ would pay attention to it and keep it close, so it’s there when tempt...

Do not enter the path of the wicked,      and do not walk in the way of the evil.  Avoid it; do not go on it;      turn away from it and pass on.  … But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn,      which shines brighter and brighter until full day.  The way of the wicked is like deep darkness;      they do not know over what they stumble. (Proverbs 4:14-15, 18-19) Father, you set two...

Hear, my son, and accept my words,      that the years of your life may be many.  I have taught you the way of wisdom;      I have led you in the paths of uprightness.  When you walk, your step will not be hampered,      and if you run, you will not stumble.  Keep hold of instruction; do not let go;      guard her, for she is your life. (Proverbs 4:10-13) Father, your wisdom is a clear road where...

Get wisdom; get insight;      do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth.  Do not forsake her, and she will keep you;      love her, and she will guard you.  The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom,      and whatever you get, get insight.  Prize her highly, and she will exalt you;      she will honor you if you embrace her.  She will place on your head a graceful garland;  ...

Security My son, do not lose sight of these—      keep sound wisdom and discretion,  and they will be life for your soul      and adornment for your neck.  Then you will walk on your way securely,      and your foot will not stumble.  If you lie down, you will not be afraid;      when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.  Do not be afraid of sudden terror      or of the ruin of the wicked, when...

Trust Trust in the Lord with all your heart,      and do not lean on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge him,      and he will make straight your paths.  Be not wise in your own eyes;      fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.  It will be healing to your flesh      and refreshment to your bones. ( Proverbs 3:5-8) Father, this is the verse we long to see written on their hearts....

God Our Shield he stores up sound wisdom for the upright;      he is a shield to those who walk in integrity,  guarding the paths of justice      and watching over the way of his saints.  Then you will understand righteousness and justice      and equity, every good path;  for wisdom will come into your heart,      and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul;  discretion will watch over you,      ...

Seeking Wisdom My son, if you receive my words      and treasure up my commandments with you,  making your ear attentive to wisdom      and inclining your heart to understanding;  yes, if you call out for insight      and raise your voice for understanding,  if you seek it like silver      and search for it as for hidden treasures,  then you will understand the fear of the Lord      and find the k...

Wisdom's Call Wisdom cries aloud in the street,      in the markets she raises her voice;  at the head of the noisy streets she cries out;      at the entrance of the city gates she speaks:  “How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple?      How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing      and fools hate knowledge?  If you turn at my reproof,      behold, I will pour out my spirit...

Resisting Enticement My son, if sinners entice you,      do not consent.  If they say, “Come with us, let us lie in wait for blood;      let us ambush the innocent without reason;  like Sheol let us swallow them alive,      and whole, like those who go down to the pit;  we shall find all precious goods,      we shall fill our houses with plunder;  throw in your lot among us;      we will all have...

Reverence The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge;      fools despise wisdom and instruction.  Hear, my son, your father’s instruction,      and forsake not your mother’s teaching,  for they are a graceful garland for your head      and pendants for your neck. (Proverbs 1:7-9) Father, you are the beginning and the end of all true wisdom. I pray for ______ today, that the fear of the Lor...

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. Psalm 107 1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;     his love endures forever. 2  Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story—     those he redeemed from the hand of the foe, 3  those he gathered from the lands,     from east and west, from north and sou...

Acts 2 17  “‘In the last days, God says,     I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy,     your young men will see visions,     your old men will dream dreams. 18  Even on my servants, both men and women,     I will pour out my Spirit in those days,     and they will prophesy. 19  I will show wonders in the heavens above     and signs on the earth below,     b...

Psalm 92 A psalm. A song. For the Sabbath day. 1  It is good to praise the Lord     and make music to your name, O Most High, 2  proclaiming your love in the morning     and your faithfulness at night, 3  to the music of the ten-stringed lyre     and the melody of the harp. 4  For you make me glad by your deeds, Lord;     I sing for joy at what your hands have done. 5  How great are your works, Lo...

Psalm 84 1  How lovely is your dwelling place,     Lord Almighty! 2  My soul yearns, even faints,     for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out     for the living God. 3  Even the sparrow has found a home,     and the swallow a nest for herself,     where she may have her young— a place near your altar,     Lord Almighty, my King and my God. 4  Blessed are those who dwell in your h...

John 15 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unles...

Psalm 24 1  The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it,     the world, and all who live in it; 2  for he founded it on the seas     and established it on the waters. 3  Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord?     Who may stand in his holy place? 4  The one who has clean hands and a pure heart,     who does not trust in an idol     or swear by a false god. 5  They will receive blessing from the...

John 10:11-18 11  “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.  12  The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it.  13  The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. 14  “I am the good shepherd; I know...

John 10Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them.  I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture.  The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full...

Jesus said to her, “I AM the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”John 11:25-26
