The Other Half

This week we're bringing to you something spooky to listen to this Halloween! This is the first episode of Flies, Mike's murder/mystery podcast. It’s the story of a woman who’s trying to bring justice to her brutally murdered cousin ten years later. Things are not what they seem in Wilson, Kentucky. Subscribe to it here on iTunes or check it out on Soundcloud!   Check out https://shop.theo...

Listen to Demon House at your own risk there may be demons INSIDE THIS PODCAST. This is our first documentary ever for this podcast and it's a doozy. For those who don't know Zak Bagansis from the hit show Ghost Adventures. Him and his bro buddies used to go on fun ghost trips, which involved yelling at demons inside of houses. Here's his own solo movie about yelling at ghosts and expl...

Witches get stitches in The Craft. The boys take on the cult spooky movie that found a following among women who enjoy a more adult occult movie. The Other Half treatment for this movie leads to some interesting opinions about how the film shakes out. ------------------------ Looking for something creepy in to listen to in this hallowed month? Check out Mike’s podcast, Flies. It’s the story of a w...

Ethan and Mike tackle scary video games and virtual reality in the '90s with eXistenZ. Jennifer Jason Leigh and Jude Law star in this gruesome movie directed by Cronenberg. The plot is basically: Jennifer Jason Leigh must escape from hitmen. It's made difficult in a land where video games are plugged in through your spinal cord and you can't tell what is real. Get ready for some twists...

We kick off our Halloween Spooktacular with Demon Seed! A movie about a robot trying to impregnate a woman and create a robot-human hybrid! It's a weird concept and could only come out of the 1970s. Most importantly, it shows that some robots want to have sex! (Yay) But only because they can't make an artificial womb in time. (Boo) Demon Seed surprisingly takes this off the wall concept an...

Lindsay joins the boys to talk about the classic teen dark comedy movie, Heathers. Winona Ryder and Christian Slater star in a movie about teenage angst, depression and just trying to survive the high school experience. Christian Slater plays the bad boy, but he's like REALLY bad. Winona Ryder tries to fit in with the popular ladies but hates it. All of the other characters have their own issu...

Mariah Carey wants to forget Glitter. She doesn't want you to listen to this podcast on the movie. In fact, she'd rather get this problematic movie out her life and only refer to it as the "G" word. The boys talk about one of the worst movies of the early millennia. No one is exactly sure why this movie did so badly, as it was released on September 11th, 2001? Or was it just becaus...

What '90s kid doesn't remember Indian in the Cupboard? I mean this Frank Oz movie was the hit educational movie you and your friends had to watch. What was surprising was the amount of detail that went into the "historical" accuracy of the movie. Also the fact that Ethan and Mike, despite owning the VHS could not remember a single thing about the movie. What a weird concept though....

The Black Hole was one of Disney's last forays into live-action filmmaking. It was also the most expensive film ever to be made at the time and the first Disney movie rated PG. Sadly, when you're trying to combine Star Wars and 2001: A Space Oddessy, both ingredients come out half-baked. This is a movie Disney you think Disney would love to forget about, but actually, there are talks of a...

The boys dive into Nerve, a young adult movie based on the book by the same name. The movie isn't based on a well known young adult series like The Maze Runner, The Hunger Games or Twilight, but hey, enough people liked the book to get the movie made.  This is one of those high concept movies. If you wished Black Mirror was targeted towards teens, boy do we have the film for you! Imagine the w...

The Other Half takes on the Brian De Palma movie, Snake Eyes. The movie itself starts off great. It even continues being great right after the second half, but somehow the last fifth of the movie complete drops the ball. It sucks because there should be more great Nic Cage movies in the world. Honestly, Nicolas Cage is fantastic in this movie. It's just weird scenes like the one below that com...

The boys decide to check out Split starring James McAvoy, now that there's such a thing as the "M. Night Shyamalan Universe." People say M. Night is back making good movies. The boys remain skeptical. Can Night make a movie about Dissociated Identity Disorder in a sensitive provocative way? Or is this just another stepping stone to a shocking twist? Remeber we covered Unbreakable years...

The boys take on Mamma Mia! The infamous music which recently got a sequel as of this recording. This positions itself as a fun-filled movie staring ABBA's music, Amanda Seyfried, Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth. Who loves ABBA so much, they'll sit through a paper-thin plot and mediocre cinematography?? Not Ethan that's for sure!   At least it's not offensive AND bad like...

The Other Half tackles, Tiptoes with first-time guest James. The movie Gary Oldman would probably love to erase off his IMDB page.  He plays a little person.... across from an actual little person (Peter Dinklage) who is French for seemingly no reason. The movie tries to tiptoe around its seemingly dark premise of bringing a child who will know a lifetime of pain romantic comedy wrappings. But no...

Bruce Willis can make a weird movie. Part heist film/screwball comedy, it doesn't do either of those well, but it has heart and an off-putting sense of humor. Also, it's the best Assassin's Creed movie in existence. Check out https://shop.theotherhalfpodcast.com/ to help support the show and get your room some cool art! Phelan is back to bring young girl wish fulfillment movies to The Other Half! This time we tackle Hilary Duff's alter-ego in The Lizzie McGuire Movie. A Disney movie set in Italy what could go wrong? I sure hope she doesn't fall in love with a strange Italian man who will lead her down a path of doom and destruction. Nah, if movies have taught me anything is that strangers are always bad,...

The best way to get someone to leave their parents place is to hire someone to fall in love with them. What happens after they move out? Do they break up? The premise of this movie is set up to fail from the get-go. Matthew McConaughey charms and chemistry with Sarah Jessica Parker don't help, if anything they hurt this poorly made script. Check out https://shop.theotherhalfpodcast.com/ to hel...

Sometimes just you gotta watch a movie no one has heard of (or should hear of) to remember what a truly bad and incompetent movie is. We can only wait for The Last Jedi remake to match a quality movie like this. The plot is basically: what happens when a playboy turns into a dog during the day and a man at night? Can he fall in love in a healthy relationship? Can there be a soundtrack in this movi...

TruTV, giving you some great Ed! First-time guest Ally joins us in on the show to bring us another Matthew McConaughey hit, EdTV! So imagine a poor man's Truman Show and replace all those existential parts with goofy romance and poorly written characters. Look, comedies are a weird genre to put on the podcast, but romantic comedies are golden eggs. This year we've found one of the best/worst romantic comedies we've seen in a long time. Alright. Alright. Alright. Also, this has a great story about mile high clubs... Check out https://shop.theotherhalfpodcast.com/ to help support the show and get your room some cool art! Bedknobs and Broomsticks is the rejected Mary Poppins we've all been clamoring for. in some ways, it deserves more recognition than it gets. It's a better movie with worse songs and even less animation. But man when it has animation it really embellishes it. One of the biggest surprises success in the box office is also a surprise success in our hearts. It didn't matter that our stomachs were full of alcohol, Speed won us over. Maybe it was Keanu Reeve's cool nature. Maybe it was the fact that this movie never lets up. Or maybe it's the part when the 707 jet blows up. That was awesome. Have a listen! Check out https://shop.theotherhalfpodc...

"Hey, this feels like it was written by a child." "It was indeed written by a literal child." "Oh, that explains a lot." "While going through divorce." "OH WHAT."   This movie is written by Robert Rodriguez's son and boy does it feel like it. It has more CGI than Spawn, is in GLORIOUS 3D and makes absolutely makes NO sense. There are so many effects hous...

The original Blues Brothers was a classic. One of the best SNL movies around. Now, what happened when they decided to make a sequel to it? They forgot to write the jokes! Ethan and Mike grab their Blues Brother loving friend, Sam, to guide them through the awful and disappointing sequel. Want a sweet pair of headphones to upgrade your sound quality and aesthetics?
