Spirits on SermonAudio

In this sermon on Belgic Confession Article 34, Rev. Joel Wories teaches that water baptism is more than a one-time rite of passage. It is a means of grace that blesses God's people throughout their lives. He considers three things. First is the place of baptism: Christ has ended every other shedding of blood, so baptism replaces bloody circumcision while still marking entrance into the covenant c...

Christ's first coming was clearly foretold, yet many were unprepared—and His second coming will likewise arrive unexpectedly, demanding spiritual readiness. The parable of the ten virgins emphasizes that outward association with the church, correct doctrine, prayer, and anticipation of Christ's return are not themselves proof of salvation; only those who possess the "oil" of the Holy Spirit—true r...

The Canons of Dort The Fifth Head of Doctrine – The Perseverance of the Saints ARTICLE 11 – Believers struggle with various carnal doubts and do not always feel the full force of this assurance, but God will never tempt them above their ability to bear it, but makes for them a way of escape; also the Holy Spirit works assurance in us. The Scripture moreover testifies that believers in this life ha...

We look at Ezekiel 37, emphasizing that encounters with unbelievers are divine appointments where God places His witnesses among the spiritually dead.

Have you ever felt that there is a disconnect between what the church is, and what Scripture says it should be? The church is meant to be a hospital for the hurting, but some of our wounds are self-inflicted. Instead of helping to bear one another's burdens, we are sometimes afraid to get involved. Jesus calls us a city on a hill but sometimes the church is an almost invisible secret society. Rath...

Luke ordered his account carefully to ensure our certainty in the things we have been taught concerning Christ. His last scene in Luke 24:50–53 brings his work to a close in the same place where our story began, worshiping in the Lord's temple, yet with an entirely new situation. Darkness is replaced by light, the proud have been brought low, the lowly have been exalted, and the good news of great...

The sermon explores the themes of trust and deliverance through the lens of Psalm 56, highlighting David's reliance on God amidst physical and spiritual opposition. This sermon on John 3:1-16 expounds the necessity of sovereign regeneration. Nicodemus, a Pharisee and Sanhedrin member, approaches Jesus privately by night, acknowledging His divine signs yet treating Him as a mere teacher. Still spiritually blind, he cannot see the kingdom on his own terms. Jesus insists that unless one is born again of water and the Spirit (Ezekiel 36), he cannot enter God's ki...

John 13:21, 33, 38 21 "When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me." 33 "Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say to you." 38 "Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily...

We find great comfort from the truth of "The Witness of the Spirit." Drawing from both Romans 8 & 1 John 4, we explore how the Holy Spirit assures true believers of their spiritual adoption, points them to Christ, and grows faith, love, and joyful obedience. Don't rest not in changing feelings, but in God's steadfast love and the Spirit's faithful work in us.
