Notes by Northwest
Notes by NW celebrates the music and the musicians with roots in the Pacific NW. Artists range from the Wailers and Ventures from the 1960s, to Ray Charles and Quincy Jones, each of whom lived in Seattle and met with they were 16 and 14; to icons like Kenny Loggins and Heart; Jimi Hendrix, of course; the grunge bands and their offspring; and contemporary artists like Brandi Carlile and The Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio.

Notes by Northwest: June 19, 2025 20.06.2025 2:59:46
The first hour features an edited interview with Dana Lyons, a folk singer-activist in the vein of Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger. Based in Bellingham, I interviewed him at the Finn River Cidery where he was performing a benefit concert on June 1, 2025.

This wasn't the originally planned first hour--it was like the scene in Broadcast News where they're trying to get something on the air. My favorite song on this show had nothing to do with the PNW, but I played "Birthday" by The Beatles in honor of my father's 89th birthday during the first hour. Love you, Dad.

The May Day show began with Pete Seeger's version of Roll on Columbia, appropriate for someone who dedicated his life to social equity. More meaningful in today's environment. Also included a song by Seattlite Judy Collins, who celebrated her birthday today. Plus a duet by WIll Worden to celebrate his birthday yesterday. And a much of other stuff, including some grunge origin bands...

NORTHWEST PASSAGES: PARKNAPPING DOESN'T PAY EPISODE TWO 05.04.2025 4:57
This is a great story of a battle in the 1980s for the Miller Peninsula near Sequim, on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington state--a battle among locals, the state and a foreign corporation. From the publisher: Secret deals are often exposed, and right and wrong become crystal clear. That was the case when Washington State governments attempted to cheat the public out of land promised them, and...
