CinePsyEP232: Luther The Geek When a film’s reputation has it built up to be at a mythical level, the search for and obtainment of that film becomes more than a check on a list of other movies. A rare find is often lauded for its scarcity over its own merit, but what happens when that rare find is also a notorious and sometimes devious artifact?  The myth grows even more.  Luther The Geek represen...

CinePsyEP231: Lady Frankenstein Gothic horror and salacious femme fatal worlds collide in the story of Lady Frankenstein. Obsessed with her fathers work and on the verge of perfecting its processes, the titular character manipulates her way through treachery and slimy men trying to bed her using only her feminine wiles and her own treacherous nature. The plot twists more than the knives stabbed in...

CinePsyEP230: Giallo In Venice Giallo In Venice was a much sought after film for Cort upon seeing only a brief shot that lit his imagination on fire as to what would happen next.  After losing the grey market supplier who had the film available and not even knowing the name of the film or what that brief glimpse even represented, it surfaced years later when Scorpion Releasing put the film out.  ...

CinePsyEP229: Malibu High Back to pure exploitation this week in PSYOPS land. Malibu High was a revelation and a breath of fresh air after the previous week’s disappointment.   Marketed as a straight up teen sex romp, the film has a darker edge that really gave the boys something to sink their cinematic teeth into and discuss. Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0PhshKRtKhh4ESfKhrer6s?si=7M_fLK...

CinePsyEP228: Mountaintop Motel Massacre A long forgotten entry in the slasher genre from the earliest days of its inception, Mountaintop Motel Massacre has more interesting behind the scenes stories than thrilling kills or plot.  Matt literally phones it in once again, this time because he wanted to watch some stupid sports ball event the same week of xmas on the only night the boys could record....

CinePsyEP227: Holiday In Cannibal Holocaust Cannibal Holocaust, The big daddy of all exploitive trash cinema is on the docket for the Holiday review.  Some may call this the most wonderful time of the year, however some perspective on the worst man kind has to offer may help to enhance the holiday cheer, or ruin it. Just face it, Cort is miserable and wants everyone else in Whoville to be as loath...

CinePsyEP226: Galaxy Of Terror A film with one trick and a nasty selling point of a maggot sexual assaulting  a woman to death, Galaxy of Terror is somehow just now making its way onto this show.  The effects and production design are a precursor to what James Cameron would later do with his film Aliens.  A star studded cast with suits and opticals purchased from a Battlestar Galactica liquidation...

CinePsyEP225: Battle Royale Full Franchise Fest Upon every 25th episode a Full Franchise Fest must be celebrated in the PSYOPS Labs.  The boys decide the best way to handle the 9th installment of this on going series is to cover a franchise with only two movies in it. (Hey, it’s still the FULL Franchise)  That brings us to the cultural phenomenon that is Battle Royale.  Plagued with controversy an...

CinePsyEP224: The Poughkeepsie Tapes Things become a little dour in the studio as Cort and Matt get a little help from Brandon to discuss The Poughkeepsie Tapes. The discussion is sparked from an experiment to see if a hackneyed theory Cort had about seeing the film in its poor quality bootleg form being more effective than the modern BluRay HD transfer and all of its high resolution.  The group g...

CinePsyEP223: Forbidden World After a phenomenal episode on The Devil’s Nightmare, Cort chooses the schlocky Forbidden World to talk about to destroy all momentum and guarantee an episode of sheer tom foolery and stupid juvenile antics.  Mission accomplished as the show completely derails with in seconds of the start.   Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0PhshKRtKhh4ESfKhrer6s?si=7M_fLKDsRomB...

CinePsyEP222: Devil’s Nightmare The studio has a guest visitor drop in to discuss her favorite horror film Devil’s Nightmare and verbally accost Matt at opportune moments.   Cort leads the charge and repeatedly distracts everyone creating shit loads of outtakes and clips. The fourth week of spoopy movies brings us the second and final pairing of Boris Karloff and Christopher Lee in Curse of the Crimson Altar.  Cort confesses to a life long obsession with Barbra Steele as Matt tries to hold his illness at bay to do the notes.  The scavenged iMac has a massive power board failure and causes the boys to record with out the benefit of any live playback for the music, p...

CinePsyEP218: Demented 1980 The third week of spoopy movies brings us the would be sleaze fest Demented from 1980.  Demented is a veritable cornucopia of examples of the wrong thing to do in the face of a horrific sexual assault on a loved one.  The film bums out both hosts who attempt to find something worth discussing amongst all of the film’s victim blaming and patriarchal pandering to rape cul...

CinePsyEP217: The House That Screamed The second week of spoopy movies brings us The House That Screamed and stuns both hosts in its story telling and ability to weave numerous plot threads into an engaging and emotional story that sparks many side tangents.  Cort confesses to his disappointment in not getting the kind of sleazy flick he was expecting and proceeds to side track Matt with his perve...

CinePsyEP215: Penitentiary The final film in the Listener Supported picks from Robert brings a boxing tournament within the walls of a federal penitentiary and all the other horrible things that happen in the titular Penitentiary as well.  The film sparks many debates between the cohosts as well as a discussion on the possible messages and social commentary layered into the plot llnes of the film...

CinePsyEP214 The Last House On Dead End Street The story behind the scenes of the film may be far more interesting and disturbing than the film itself these days, however in its 1977 debut, four years after its troubled production, The Last House On Dead End Street became its own urban legend and shocked the entirety of 42nd Street. A film filled to the brim with anger and vitriol spewing as much...

CinePsyEP213 The Secret Life: Jeffrey Dahmer In another poor taste move, Cort decides to cover a controversial film made rapidly on the heels of the trial and conviction of Jeffery Dahmer.  The film piggy backed off of a media circus and the shocking crimes of the most notorious necrophilic cannibal killer in modern America.  The reason for covering this movie on episode 213 is probably the most t...

CinePsyEP212 Listener Supported: Corruption  Corruption, is it supernatural? Are the events of the film fractured memories of a dying mind?   Are all faustian deals with the devil or can one sell their soul in increments because of poor life decisions? All of these questions are not the average things that should be going through your mind when watching an adult film, but none the less here we are...

CinePsyEP211 Listener Supported: A Woman’s Torment Mental health of the affluent female is explored here in an adult film from Listener Supported Selection: A Woman’s Torment.  The film represents the triumphant return of director Roberta Findlay to the show. and as our discussions of her films Lurkers and Prime Evil sparked Listener Supporter Robert to select the films for this series. Spotify: h...

CinePsyEP210 Listener Supported: Memories Within Miss Aggie The First episode of our Listener Supported selections from our boy Robert is Memories Within Miss Aggie.  This film is unarguably pornographic in nature, however the storytelling craft takes both the hosts by shocking surprise as they find deeper meaning in all the things placed deep within Miss Aggie.  Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/...

CinePsyEP209 Eaten Alive The First episode of year 5 has both the boys in ill health and ill tempered.  The boys complain like the old ass pieces of shit they are for most of the opening about everything and anything until Matt starts in on bullshit conspiracy theories and angers Cort even more.  Eventually the dumb ass duo get their shit together enough to talk about Umberto Lenzi’s Eaten Alive. ...

CinePsyEP208 Cort’s Favorite: The Ninth Configuration The final episode in year four brings Cort’s favorite film to discuss for review.  The Ninth Configuration is a film that has deeply affected Cort from the day it randomly entered his life over two decades ago.  The film is a chaotic mix of multiple genres that collide into a beautiful fever dream about existential dread and finding a reason to...
