Today we’re going to be discussing Harry Potter, Lord Voldemort, and powerful mother to Draco—Narcissa Malfoy. Specifically, we’re going to be taking a look at how Narcissa quietly navigated some of the most dangerous people and situations in the entire Harry Potter series, how she managed to remain close to Voldemort’s inner circle without ever fully surrendering herself to him, and how one lie m...

Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we’re discussing a segment from the Deathly Hallows involving Draco Malfoy and Harry Potter. More specifically, we’ll be addressing the moment that Draco Malfoy FAILS to identify Harry Potter in the presence of his father and fellow Death Eaters. What I want to explore is..WHY? Did Draco simply FAIL to recognize Harry? Was it an act of self-preservation? Or,...

This one’s going to be a doozy. Severus Snape is perhaps one of the most important characters in the Harry Potter series. He was the man who first delivered the prophecy to Voldemort. He was the man trusted with secrets powerful enough to decide the outcome of the war. He was the man who protected the son of the woman he loved, even when that boy hated him. And perhaps most importantly, he was the...

The Harry Potter series is scheduled to premiere on HBO and HBO Max in December of this year, and with that date fast approaching: we’ve got some updates. Now, the first Harry Potter book and film is generally considered the lightest and most child-friendly in the entire series. And as the books and films go on, they get progressively DARKER and DARKER- which made a lot of sense given that much of...

One of a matching pair, the enchanted mirror allowed its owner to communicate instantly with whoever possessed its counterpart simply by speaking their name into the glass. Sirius and James had originally used the mirrors to speak to one another while serving separate detentions at Hogwarts, and decades later, Sirius gives James’s mirror to Harry so that the two of them could remain in contact wit...

Ever since HBO revealed the first full trailer for the Harry Potter series, almost every argument has focused on casting and whether or not the series is staying true to their claim of being a ‘faithful adaptation’ of the books. But the series may actually have a much bigger problem—one that HBO is already restructuring the entire production to solve. Topics Covered In This Video: HBO Harry Potter...

Welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. This is part 1 of a video series where I’ll be diving in to the Harry Potter books and taking a look, chapter by chapter, at all of the mistakes that were made. Starting with book 1: Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. I’m going to be placing a particular focus on instances in which factual errors were made or canon was somehow contradic...

Over the last few months, I’ve made a dedicated video for each of the seven Harry Potter books, breaking down five plot holes in each. And today, since I’m going away for 10 days — to Scotland- the HP motherland of all places — I thought I’d put together a compilation bringing them all together. That means we’re going book by book, from The Philosopher’s Stone to The Deathly Hallows, and revisitin...

Ron Weasley’s older brothers, Fred and George Weasley, are typically known by fans as the mischievous twin brothers defined by pranks, jokes, and light-hearted chaos. And while most of the time their behaviour consists of harmless troublemaking, there are actually a few moments throughout the series where Fred and George’s actions become far more questionable. There are three moments in particular...

The 3 Unforgivable Curses: Imperio, Crucio and Avada Kedavra, are perhaps the most infamous spells in the entire Wizarding World. But despite their widespread notoriety, very little is actually known about them. Why are they unforgivable? How do they work? And most importantly.. Who actually created them? I think I figured it out... Topics Covered In This Video: Who created the Unforgivable Curses...

A while back I made a video called ‘Why Didn't Voldemort Try to RECRUIT Grindelwald?’, and basically- the focus of that video was why Voldemort never made any attempts to recruit an imprisoned Grindelwald at Nurmengard. On both occasions that Voldemort rose to power, Grindelwald was sitting in a locked tower, so it always felt a bit peculiar to me that he wouldn’t have tried to recruit the most po...

Hey everyone, welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. At the end of the First Wizarding War, there were a lot of GUILTY people being charged with some pretty heinous crimes. Voldemort was gone, pretty much everyone affiliated with him was caught, and the Ministry and greater wizarding community were left with the incredibly difficult task of prosecuting those who had sided with Vold...

In the wizarding world, few magical concepts spark as many “what if” debates as the ability to alter the past. If it could be used to save both Buckbeak and Sirius, why didn’t anyone just go a little further? Why not stop Cedric Diggory’s death? Or warn Lily and James before Voldemort arrived? Why not save Dumbledore, or even stop Voldemort’s rise altogether by sabotaging Tom Riddle’s past? Topics...

So far in this PLOT HOLE series we’ve covered Philosopher’s Stone, Chamber of Secrets, and Prisoner of Azkaban. And if one thing has become obvious through this process, it’s that the Harry Potter books (although incredible) are not without their little inconsistencies and world-building issues. And in Goblet of Fire… Things get a bit worse. Because this is the book where Rowling massively expands...

Hey everyone, welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. So far in this series we’ve covered Philosopher’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets (parts 1 and 2, go check those out if you haven’t already), and if there’s one thing that’s abundantly clear it’s that the deeper you dig into these books, the more strange little contradictions and logical issues you start uncovering. And in that resp...

Hey everyone, welcome to Harry Potter Theory. In my most recent video I broke down some of the biggest plot holes in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. And before I had even finished writing the script for that video, I realized there were probably enough plot holes in each book for this to be a video series. Once you start looking closely enough, you begin noticing all sorts of strange con...
