Send us Fan Mail Chess training resumes. Question of the week: “why can’t a Queen castle?” After half-term hiatus, my Sunday morning junior chess training resumes.  As ever, the session is a source of enlightenment for me (as well, I hope, for the students).  I can report the break has not affected the retention of earlier lessons by the students.  For example, one has become somewhat entranced by...

The story came to life for me today, when William, an acquaintance of mine who is an avid football follower, suggested that you had to have a special sort of name at present to become a manager at Liverpool FC. "They used to pick managers with solid English or Scottish names", he continued,...

Send us Fan Mail A brilliant fighting draw for the injury-hit first team: Urmston v East Cheadle irregulars Thursday 17 October 2024 It’s the nightmare of travelling to the gates of hell and through the Urmston roundabout, year after year. Wit and Wisdom. October 2024 12.10.2024

Send us Fan Mail Wit and wisdom, October 2024 This podcast could have been dominated by the Middleton East crisis. Instead, the Nobel prize announcements caught my eye. The posts about Netanyahu capture rage, anger, frustration, and scapegoating, but unsurprisingly no wit, and not a lot of wisdom.  @TollytB I just asked my girlfriend, "Is it just me, or is the cat getting fat?" "No,...
