Acts 21:18-23:11 | Courageous Witness 27.05.2018 39:13
With his missionary journeys behind him, Paul now travels to Jerusalem where he is almost instantly met with hostility. In this text he faces a bloodthirsty mob, arrest, a near beating, and an unruly council. Paul’s example in these things shows us the amount of courage that being a faithful witness of Jesus requires. From this point forward, we only know Paul as a prisoner headed toward Rome.
Acts 20:1-21:17 | The Blood-Bought Flock 20.05.2018 38:05
Our passage for this week follows Paul in the latter half of his third missionary journey. This section focuses in on the personal relationships that have been developed as he gives farewells on his way to Jerusalem. In his final words to the Ephesian elders, we can see his heart for the church and desire to see it led well.
Acts 18:24-20:1 | No Little Disturbance 13.05.2018 37:18
Paul begins his third missionary journey and spends a lot of time in Ephesus, clearly and faithfully preaching the gospel and it has a profound effect: individuals believe, receive the Holy Spirit, repent, and experience transformed lives. By the time the story comes to a close we discover that clear and faithful gospel preaching, empowered by the Holy Spirit, transforms the whole city of Ephesus.
Acts 18:1-23 | Do Not Be Afraid 06.05.2018 38:59
Paul’s second missionary journey ends with an extended stay in the city of Corinth. Like most of the cities that he has traveled to, Corinth is rife with conflict and danger. So much so, that it is necessary for the Lord to personally reassure Paul of his constant presence. And although he faces much uncertainty in this story, the fruit of Paul’s faithful labor in Corinth is undeniable in the year...
Acts 17:1-34 | The Gospel Advances 29.04.2018 40:16
Chapter 17 of Acts brings us to the middle leg of Paul’s second missionary journey. As the gospel is presented and taught to three different people groups (Thessalonians, Bereans, Athenians), we see three different types of reception. This passage demonstrates for us the unchanging nature of the gospel message as well as the versatility in its presentation.
Acts 15:36-16:40 | God Shakes Up the World 22.04.2018 42:42
After the Jerusalem Council, Paul and Barnabas set off on a second missionary journey that hardly goes as planned. Personal conflict, a change in destination, and a stint in jail mark this trip. But what we see is God’s full control over all that happens and his using these events to further the kingdom.
