Open Your Toys

I finally got through all the stuff in my garage to sell. I should be really excited, but unfortunately, it was actually anxiety-inducing. For the first time, I got a full understanding of the extent of my collection. In two words? It’s ridiculous. I still have a shed to go through, which I hope will […] The post Open Your Toys Cast – Episode 324: Too Much Stuff… appeared first on Open...

It seems that most things in life, including life itself, are cyclical. At almost 50 years old, I’ve been fortunate enough to witness some of the longer cycles, such as politics, finance, and fashion. You would think shorter cycles would be easier to recognize. However, even some of those have taken the wisdom of many […] The post Open Your Toys Cast – Episode 323: The Ebb and Flow… appeared...

While we don’t meet in a cave or have expectations of legacy to uphold, the struggle is real. We have bills to pay, people we love, and something that unifies us. That thing can be exhilarating, discouraging, and even debilitating at times. What great hobby doesn’t have at least some of these attributes? I’m just […] The post Open Your Toys Cast – Episode 322: Dead Podcasters Society… appear...

Not a lot of time for reminiscing, especially considering it’s a holiday weekend. Just want to remind everyone to do what they love, whatever that might be. After our Great American Road Trip, it is now time to kick it into high gear. Not only do I have the expense of the trip, but I also have two birthdays, back-to-school expenses, and now some much-needed dental work. I still have thousands of dollars’ worth of toys I need to list. Just gotta […] The post Open Your Toys Cast – Episode 320: Crunch Time… appeared first on Open Your Toys .

I’m not talking for work or even pleasure. What do you do when you don’t want to do something? You know, how do you procrastinate? I’ve talked about what I do ad nauseam. I do it primarily because I procrastinate a lot. Things get done, life moves on. I’m just curious if this is normal? As soon as I start really doing well, I always seem to fall back into bad habits. It’s tough to have positive and negative triggers. Have a tough day, trigger. Have a great day, trigger. Have a blah day, trigger. I can say that at least I have begun to recognize my triggers. Unfortunately, because […] The post Open Your Toys Cast – Episode 317: Back to Bad Habits… appeared first on Ope...

My favorite team in my favorite sport has made it to the Eastern Conference Finals. That’s something they haven’t done since 2000. During the broadcast of the first game, the commentators are making all kinds of references to how long that is. It’s crazy because I have been collecting, relatively seriously, for just over 25 […] The post Open Your Toys Cast – Episode 315: Co...

I just came off my best month ever selling toys. I sold over 100 items for just north of four thousand dollars. Now that’s all gross, so I have to factor in fees, discounts, etc., but still really exciting. It does take up a considerable amount of my time. However, I’m still not working it […] The post Open Your Toys Cast – Episode 314: Best Month Ever… appeared first on Op...

This past weekend was my favorite local toy show. Unfortunately, I really didn’t get to enjoy it. I was too busy selling. Now, that in itself is not a bad thing. I sold a thousand bucks worth of toys. It’s more that I didn’t even want to look around. I was there for business. Man, looks like con season has already started. During the last show, we talked Toy Fair, Collector Con, Zolocon, Revealed, and more. This time around, we have new Hasbro Fanstreams, TFCon, Haulathon, and SDCC reveals. I guess it’s officially con season. Since I don’t go to any national cons anymore, it’s not quite as thrilling […] The post Open Your Toys Cast – Episode 312...

I am so happy that Toy Fair is back. Not a virtual or later-in-the-year one, but an actual Toy Fair! There were tons of new toys to get excited about from all four franchises. However, there was nothing I couldn’t live without. Is it progress on my addiction or simply burnout? Stuff will still go […] The post Open Your Toys Cast – Episode 311: Toy Fair 2025… appeared first on Ope...

Are you addicted to toys, or maybe just collecting in general? I would like to float the idea that most collectors are addicted at some level. Are there other things you are addicted to? Well, a month in and I’m doing pretty good with my goals. I’m still not performing at the level I want but I’m consistently getting stuff posted and sold. How many times have I said it? Is it real this time? I don’t really have an option anymore. It’s either going to be real or there’s going to be a big problem. It’s the most wonderful time of the year. No, not the holidays, the sales. Oh my god, there have been so many sales. And, they have been amazing this year. Lil Ms. McFavorite is in a phase where she whines constantly. She whines when we ask her to do something, when we tell her we’re going somewhere, basically anytime we bring something up, that doesn’t make her 100% happy. It’s almost comical at this point. It drives both Mrs. McFavorite and me a little crazy. […] The post Open Your Toys Cast – Episode 305: Better Call a Wambulance… appe...
