Épisodes

13.10 Could've Been Worse (Is Erasure Good?), or World of Giants (1959), 10 of 13 05.08.2024

Emily and Andrew join Mel and Bill on their trip to Hong Kong, which features very few people of Chinese origin, mainland or HK. Instead, Mel and Bill are trying to help foil people trying to escape to capitalism. Because 1959's weird.

13.9 Here Be Donkey (The Jezebel Agenda), or: World of Giants (1959), 9 of 13 29.07.2024

Another week, another whirlwind trip to questionable locales. In this case, an unnamed Carribean island where the U.S. government has lost a spy rocket. Luckily, crack counter-espionage doll man Mel Hunter is on it. Well, maybe not luckily. Not since Emily and Andrew had to watch it to talk about it. Yes, there's a talking donkey, no, there's not any good miniature. And does Brownie get an...

13.8 There Will Be a Donkey (After-Thirst, Never) 22.07.2024

Emily and Andrew (especially Andrew) are a little punchy with the news J.D. Vance grew up in suburban Ohio and not impoverished in Appalachia and he's just a liar. Anyway. Mel and Bill are on assignment in Miami, they treat Ms. Brown like dirt, get into slight intrigue, oogle, there's a lot to talk about even beyond J.D. Vance being a liar. Also, some ideas about feedback formats for the p...

13.7 We Stand on a Great Threshold (Or Not), or: World of Giants (1959), 7 of 13 15.07.2024

Emily and Andrew come to the awkward realization, no matter how adorable the low-fi special effects can get, the show being about a giant twerp, all two to six inches of him, is too much. But they do have some fun talking... and sometimes about the show!

13.6 Mel's Still a Little Dipstick (No Apologies) 07.07.2024

Turns out Emily and Andrew are in for more surprises as this episode retcons Mel being a jerk to lady regular character Brownie and apologizing to ... him saying he'll never apologize and he does it because he likes her. Swell. But there some big special effects swings (and stumbles). Loads of fun.

13.5 Quarters Used to Be Bigger Back Then (Tip Your Nurses), or: World of Giants (1959), 5 of 13 01.07.2024

Emily and Andrew are in for a big surprise when return to THE WORLD OF GIANTS because all of a sudden, there are lady folks, recognizable supporting players, and sturdy effects sequences. Oh, and no animal cruelty. It's like it's an entirely different show... except most assuredly, real life 6-inch spy Mel Hunter, is, again, very real, no matter what your mom tells you.

13.4 Beware the Grizzly (Always Pick the Bear), or: World of Giants, 4 of 13 25.06.2024

Emily and Andrew head into the yard to smoke some squares, hunt innocent gophers, and avoid raking leaves for as long as they can. They run across the world's totally non-fiction, real-world six-inch espionage agent... Mel Hunter. And step on him. They wish. Tune in as they discuss their regrets in not doing so.

13.3 What Kind of Animal Would Do This (To a Dog), or: World of Giants (1959), 3 of 13 17.06.2024

That's right, folks! MORE ANIMAL CRUELTY! Maybe they really didn't do it. Maybe. Anyway, it's the episode Emily and Andrew have been waiting for--not the animal cruelty, jeez--but the incredibly cheap incredible shrinking effects. Oh, and we get to see what WORLD OF GIANTS thinks of the ladies... Buckle up.

13.2 So Much Animal Cruelty (Thanks, ABC), or: World of Giants (1959), 2 of 13 10.06.2024

Emily and Andrew were planning for a relaxing afternoon in the garage, using their tools to solder, as ones do when preparing to testify against the Mob. Hope no one sends them a TIME BOMB disguised as a book-of-the-month club selection. Even worse... what if they don't have a secret agent spy Ken doll to save them!?!

13.1 Go Small or Go Home (The Iron Curtain), or: World of Giants (1959), 1 of 13 02.06.2024

Emily and Andrew guzzle some Drink Me and get into a Delorean Matchbox to head back to 1959 and WORLD OF GIANTS. Though they call it something else. Don't worry, you don't want to know and you'll find out. WIll you find out the MacGuffin, however? Do you like pickles on your MacGuffins? The answers to these questions and much more, on this week's exciting espionage-filled episode o...

12.6 Insert Snowglobe Here (My Little Prince), or: Crashing (2016), 6 of 6 26.05.2024

What's this, another season without a bad episode? How ever will Emily and Andrew recover? Stay tuned to the end of this episode to find out. You don't just get to hear about next season, you also get to hear all about CRASHING's finale, which Emily knew about already because she watched ahead. Listen as they hosts try to remember numerous details, track various scenes, and keep spoile...

12.5 How's the Curry? (Damn It, Lulu), or: Crashing (2016), 5 of 6 20.05.2024

Emily and Andrew reach the penultimate CRASHING and discuss how the show starts wrapping things up, and the chances PWB takes with the audience's stomachs to get there. They also remain bullish about their ships on the show. At least, Andrew does; Emily watched ahead. Le sigh.

12.4 When You're Sliding Into First (Down With the Patriarchy), or: Crashing (2016), 4 of 6 12.05.2024

Emily overcomes a plot point she really doesn't like (despite Andrew's attempts to craft the episode around it), and settles into another fantastic episode of PWB's CRASHING. The show keeps making (unexpected) big swings and landing them. Tune in as the hosts continue... enjoying the show they're watching! Whoo!

12.3 It's Not the Eighties, You Can Make That Joke (You Cannot), or: Crashing (2016), 3 of 6 05.05.2024

Once again, Emily and Andrew find themselves contending with a... good television show? Exquisite at times? Thoughtful? All these words they've forgotten how to engage with, beatened down by the ABC sitcoms of yore. But thanks to PWB, they're learning to live in television land again!

12.2 Don't Be Absurd (We're British), or: Crashing (2016), 2 of 6 29.04.2024

What's this? Emily and Andrew... enjoying another episode of a television show? There's complex character development intertwined with physical comedy so extreme it would be too much for summer improv? And it's successful? Has a good show broken your dear narrator's ability to make declarative statements and instead everything must be in the form of a question? Find out next week,...

12.1 Is That Sensation Called Laughing (In the Same Car), or: Crashing (2016), 1 of 6 22.04.2024

Having survived the wilds of Sherwood Forest, and now sticking to the rivers and the lakes they're used to, hosts Emily and Andrew find refuge in an abandoned hospital and its funny, sexy caretakers. Is the hospital abandoned? Will they be funny and sexy after breaking each others' hearts? Probably, because it sure seems like a danged good show so far. What a relief it is.

11.12 More Disagreement (So Long, Farewell), or: When Things Were Rotten (1975), 13 of 13 14.04.2024

Once again exhibiting their herculean patience, Emily and Andrew reach the edge of Sherwood and the end of WHEN THINGS WERE ROTTEN. Listen as they discuss the pleasing oblivion of utterly middling television, seventies sexism, racism, and... probably other things. Plus, Emily reveals next season's series!

11.11 Can Jaime Sommers Just Kill Them Already (If Only) 08.04.2024

And, lo, did our hosts reach the eleventh and twelfth towers and look ahead and say, 'There is Nottingham. Can we quit before we get there?' And they looked upon each other and thee, dear listener, and said, no, we're going all the way. This episode of ROTTEN is really silly and desperate. Joy.

11.10 Identical Brothers All the Way (What a Wild Duet!), or: When Things Were Rotten (1975), 10 of 13 01.04.2024

In a twist, Andrew's more enthused by the latest episode--featuring the (fake) twins's birthday parties. Emily's more enthused than Andrew was about the last couple, so... things aren't actually rotten for either of our intrepid hosts, maybe just on their way. Yum.

11.9 We're Limited in How We Can Title Joke (#Misinformation), or: When Things Were Rotten (1975), 9 of 13 25.03.2024

The Great Onesies MMXXIV Schism continues! In one corner, Emily enjoys the latest episode. In the other, Andrew is mildly bored with the antics. Can the hosts resolve their differences without resorting to breaking chairs and doing powerbombs!?!?! Tune in and find out! Also, they talk about the show, which seriously has some seo challenges.

11.8 Paul Williams Wrote The Love Boat Theme (Thanks, Wikipedia), or: When Things Were Rotten (1975), 8 of 13 18.03.2024

Emily and Andrew disagree on the quality of the episode itself, but not guest star Paul Williams being delightful. Tune in for some Paul Williams trivia (which one of the hosts assumed both knew), Three Stooges hatin', and much more!

11.7 Boring and Inoffensive (Mostly), or: When Things Were Rotten (1975), 7 of 13 11.03.2024

First and foremost, the subject episode isn't anywhere near as racist as hosts Emily and Andrew were worrying. Guest star Thalmus Rasulala is allowed to be good, even, in this episode about church bell theft and fat-shaming (never said it wasn't problematic, just not as racist as the hosts feared). Tune in as they try to remember what happens....

11.6 At Least, Bernie Koppell's Good (Just Barely Around), or: When Things Were Rotten (1975), 6 of 13 04.03.2024

Not even halfway through the season, Emily and Andrew are having... well, they're having a rotten time. This episode features yet another disappointing guest star (hey, no racism or overt misogyny either), and is just really, really boring. Is Robin Hood, at some point, just boring?

11.5 It Wasn't the Worst (How Reassuring), or: When Things Were Rotten (1975), 5 of 13 26.02.2024

Emily and Andrew gingerly return to Sherwood Forest, on the lookout for racist and misogynist jokes, only not to find any. Racism, misogyny, or jokes. Even Ron Rifkin disappoints. At least the world's in great shape so there aren't any dark digressions. Oh wait. Well, anyway, it's short. Tune in!

11.4 Wait, Is It Brown Face? (The A in ABC), or: When Things Were Torrent (1975), 4 of 13 19.02.2024

Welp, Emily and Andrew made it four episodes and then they had to spend an entire episode dissecting the racism of an episode. At least it's from 1975? Some of the dancing is funny? But there's so much racism. And misogyny. Just so much. Enjoy?
