Proverbs 2:2, " So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; " Our goal is to listen to God's wisdom and apply our heart to understanding. This will take dedication and discipline to read, and study, and memorize, and meditate upon the word of God. However, you won't find many things in this life that are more worthy of your time and effort. The Lord constant...

Psalms 111:10, " The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever. " Before a person can have the wisdom of God he must first have the fear of the LORD. This fear of the Lord is the beginning of true wisdom. Anyone who does not reverence God will never have the true wisdom from heaven. Obedience to God's word...

Job 28:28, " And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the LORD, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding. " Wisdom and the fear of the Lord are tied together. True wisdom will produce a reverence for God, for his word, and a desire to obey the Lord. True wisdom comes from having this deep, reverential respect and awe of the presence of God. People who speak foolish words show they...

James 3:17, " But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. " Make sure the wisdom you receive into your heart is the wisdom that is from above and from God. How can you know? God's wisdom is pure, peaceable, gentle, easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruit, with...

James 3:15, " This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. " I've heard some people who were infected with man-made psychology and philosophy make the statement "all truth is God's truth", or "all wisdom is God's wisdom", but the Bible contradicts these people. The Bible clearly warns us about a kind of wisdom or "truth" that is not from God but is of the earth, sensua...

James 3:13, " Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? Let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. " When you are filled with God's wisdom it will produce the fruit of God's kingdom. The fruit of the Spirit flows from the person who is filled with the Holy Spirit. By their fruits you can know people. This is not judging for the purpose of condemning peo...

James 1:5, " If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. " God promises to give us wisdom if we ask him. It is God's desire for us to be filled with wisdom. Paul prayed the church would be filled with the knowledge of God's will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. Colossians 1:9. We cannot obey God in this w...

Colossians 4:5, " Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. " Who are those without? These are those outside the house of faith. This is an exhortation to look for opportunities in conversation with unbelievers to share the gospel. When we are promoting the gospel we are in essence "redeeming the time". In other words, there is nothing better we can do with our lives than sh...

Colossians 3:16, " Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. " To be filled with the knowledge of God's will requires that we read, study, memorize, and meditate upon God's word. This is work. No way around it. But if we will have the word of Christ dwell in...

Colossians 2:3, " In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. " Everything we need for salvation, deliverance, healing, provision, protection, purpose, hope... Everything a man needs in this life is found in the Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:3 If men do not seek the Lord Jesus and wisdom in him they will be led astray by deceivers who beguile people with enticing words. As we have re...

Colossians 1:9, " For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; " Wisdom from God is very important for the Christian. The world will offer a false wisdom. Men will offer false wisdom through philosophy and vain deceit and through traditions and the pri...

Ephesians 3:10, " To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, " God is demonstrating his manifold wisdom to spiritual powers in the heavens through the church. Christians are an object lesson to these spiritual powers in the heavenly places. The way we live, the words we speak, our attitudes, and our actions...

Ephesians 1:17, " That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: " The Holy Spirit is the spirit of wisdom and revelation. He reveals the Lord Jesus Christ to us. It is God's will for us to be filled with the wisdom and revelation of the Lord Jesus Christ. Pray to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Pray that y...

2 Corinthians 1:12, " For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward. " The opposite of "fleshly" wisdom is a good conscience and a life of simplicity and godly sincerity. God wants us to live out the wisdom of a simple, h...

1 Corinthians 12:8, " For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; " God gives spiritual gifts, including the word of wisdom and the word of knowledge. This is not wisdom or knowledge that comes from man's systems of religion or philosophy. This is a wisdom that comes from the Holy Spirit. Remember Jesus said that the Father reveals the...

1 Corinthians 3:19, " For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. " God is actively opposed to the wisdom of the world. He will oppose anyone who makes use of the wisdom of the world in ministry or teaching God's word. Anyone who strays away from the simplicity of the gospel will eventually have their ministry crumble. God ha...

1 Corinthians 2:13, " Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. " Paul clearly states here that he did not mix the wisdom of man with the gospel. He preached by the wisdom of the Holy Ghost, and not the wisdom of man. Discern between what is man-made (philosophy, psychology, psychiatry, se...

1 Corinthians 2:7, " But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: " The wisdom of God is hidden from the world. They cannot see the wisdom of God in allowing his son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for our sins. This wisdom is hidden from the world and from unbelievers. But to us who are saved it is the power and wisdom a...

1 Corinthians 2:6, " Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought: " The wisdom of the world and the wisdom of the rich and powerful in this world will come to nothing. It is all passing away. It is temporary and fleeting. Don't be deceived by the wisdom of the world or the big names in society, governm...

1 Corinthians 2:1-5, " And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. 4, And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: 5, That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. " The gospel is not preached according...

1 Corinthians 1:30, " But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption. " God has placed us into his son Jesus. We do not need to seek after wisdom and knowledge out in the world through any philosophy or man-made system of religion. We have everything we need for wisdom and knowledge already in the person of the Lord Jesus...

Romans 11:33, " O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! " God's wisdom and knowledge are way past anything we can figure out. His thoughts are far above ours. There is, however, a way to know the Lord. We can know by faith in what he has chosen to reveal to us about himself. God has revealed himself to us...

Acts 6:10, " And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake. " The Lord fulfilled his promise in giving the disciples the power of the Spirit and the wisdom to declare the gospel. Their enemies could not stop them from preaching, nor could they defend themselves against the plain preaching of God's word. Jesus told his disciples ahead of time that they would be persec...

Luke 21:15, " For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist. " The Lord promises his disciples that he will enable them to speak with spiritual authority and wisdom that their enemies will not be able to stop. You can see this clearly in the lives of the early disciples after the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. They preached the gospel b...

Luke 7:35, " But wisdom is justified of all her children. " True wisdom from heaven will result in specific fruit in the life of the believer. This is not the wisdom of the world, but is a wisdom that is given as a gift to those who trust in Jesus. This is the wisdom that Jesus and John the Baptist had, and you can see the fruit of their lives and their ministry. Bad fruit equals bad trees (bad wi...
