This sermon explores the theological function of the Mosaic Law as a guardian or tutor designed to lead believers to Christ, emphasizing that its primary purpose is not to provide a means of salvation through works but to reveal sin and point toward the necessity of grace. Drawing from Galatians 3 and Reformation confessions, the message contrasts the legalistic demands of the old covenant with th...

Taking an in depth look at the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

Galatians 5:7–12 presents Paul confronting the Judaising teachers who were hindering the Galatian churches from obeying the truth of justification by faith alone. This exposition examines Paul's indictment of those who corrupt the gospel, the nature of the doctrinal leaven they spread, and the apostle's confidence in the perseverance of the saints over against false teaching. Main points: - the hi...

The sermon examines the central conflict in Galatians regarding salvation by works versus salvation by grace through faith. It highlights the example of Abraham, whose belief was accounted to him for righteousness before the sign of circumcision, establishing that justification is received through faith rather than legalistic observance. The message contrasts the inability of the law to justify, a...

This sermon instructs believers on the principle of the first and second admonition found in Titus 3:10, applying it to the practical context of street evangelism. It argues that unsaved individuals possess a corrupted mind, heart, and will, evidenced by their lack of repentance and rejection of God's Word, yet they are still accountable through the witnesses of creation and conscience. The speake...

The sermon centers on the parable of the wedding feast in Matthew 22, emphasizing that the work of salvation is fully accomplished by Christ. It argues that believers need not bring any works or righteousness to God, as the gospel strips away human merit and relies solely on the finished work of the cross. The message highlights that justification is obtained through faith alone in Christ, who ful...

The Christian life includes temptation, weakness, suffering, and an ongoing battle with sin. Yet these struggles will not have the final word. Dave Jenkins explains the biblical doctrine of glorification, the final stage of salvation when believers will be completely freed from sin and perfectly conformed to the image of Jesus Christ. He also considers how glorification relates to justification an...

This sermon examines Paul's exclamation to the Galatians, highlighting the danger of drifting from the clear presentation of the gospel toward legalism. The central argument emphasizes that justification is found solely in faith in Christ, not in works of the law, and that the church must maintain the centrality of the cross against social and political distractions. The message distinguishes betw...

distinguishing "Justification" from "justification"

In this sixth lesson on the Lord's Prayer, we consider the fifth petition: "And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors." We examine the biblical language of sin as debt and the continuing need of justified believers to confess their sins and seek forgiveness from their heavenly Father. Particular attention is given to the distinction between forgiveness in justification, whereby all our s...

In this sermon we finish chapter 11 by covering paragraphs 4, 5, and 6. Specific attention is given to the error of eternal justification, what to do when we sin, and the truth that Old and New Testament saints were justified in the same way.

This sermon examines the theme of hypocrisy in Romans 2, challenging the self-righteous mindset that judges others while harboring similar sins. By contrasting the Pharisee and the tax collector in Luke 18, the message illustrates that God's judgment is based on objective truth rather than outward religious appearances or moral superiority. The text emphasizes that God's patience and kindness are...
