God speaks to Solomon in a very similar vein to their conversation in chapter 3. Solomon's rule takes a subtle turn to being more worldly (Egypt-like) than Godly, but it will take an attentive reader to note the shifts.

The Temple is complete and the dedication has taken place. All the people join in the great celebration and the "types" of the ultimate sacrifice in Jesus are rampant.

Solomon begins by blessing the people and then turns toward God as he begins his prayer of dedication. Solomon's use of "the name" seems particularly significant. Both "the name" and "this house" seem to be pointing the reader to a much greater meaning and fulfillment in Jesus.

Solomon builds his own house and the description of the house is placed in the text in a way that seems to break apart the description of the building of the Temple and it's furnishings. But is this to be taken negatively or positively? Is Solomon working in competition with God or has he built his palace as a reflection of his Father's greatness?

1 Kings 2 continues with more bloodshed, and also with a lot more typology. Along with the spirit of manipulation and power-seeking of Adonijah, now we see a spirit of violent revenge and a spirit of refusal to accept a new kingdom era must also be dealt with in order for Solomon's reign to be firmly established & flourish.
