Earth Like Heaven

Last week on ELH we looked into having our identity in Christ. This week hosts Doug and Robbie look into the multitude of other areas where a person can gain their identity and how it compares to having your identity solely in Christ.

To start out this new season of Earth Like Heaven hosts Doug Resler and Robbie Scherrei talk about how they see identity play a role in their lives, those they interact with, and those around them. They ultimately unfold the theme for this season, just like the way of Jesus is better the identifying in Jesus is too.

In the final episode this season hosts Doug and Robbie discuss Christmas and how it stands out from the other holidays during this time of year. Hear them about how they prepare for Christmas and how Jesus birth, death and resurrection is God's answer for the chaos and sin in the world.

As we head into the first week of Advent hear hosts Robbie and Doug dive into the practice and rhythm of Advent and how it is preparing oneself for the miracle of the birth of Jesus Christ on Christmas Day. Hear them discuss how practicing the season of advent can bring hope even to those who find themselves in hopelessness.

The past few weeks we have dove into the chaos, evil, pain and suffering in this world, but this week on ELH we focus on thankfulness and the practices that we engage in to combat the darkness in this world. Stick around to hear about Doug and Robbies personal diaries.

This season on ELH we have been talking about why there is bad things that happen in the world? Where does all the chaos come from that effects us all? Why would a good God allow this all to happen? When bad or unfortunate things happen to us how do we respond? Hear Robbie and Doug discuss how one can draw on the resources that God has made available to us and how to access those resources in response to harsh times.

When we or the ones we love are effected by personal suffering how do we respond? How should we respond? Does God really care about us as and our suffering? Hosts Doug and Robbie sit down and talk these topics through and share how they've learned throughout the years to respond to their own and others suffering, and give the listeners some takeaways from this pod's topic of Personal Suffering.

This week Hosts Robbie and Doug discuss into the Christian response to suffering by diving into how do Christians react and respond the bad in this world, and how the way of Jesus teaches them.

If there is so much bad things happening globally, locally, and individually why do we consider God to be good? If God was good wouldn't he stop all bad things from happening? Hosts Robbie and Doug delve into this topic in this episode of ELH.

We continue our discussion of the ethics of Jesus from the last podcast. Hosts Doug and Robbie reflect on what Jesus was saying when the people who teach the law will be called great in heaven instead of those who relax it will be the least in heaven. They also discuss how there is a fine line in proper teaching and how they way that Jesus has laid out for us is better to teach these laws.

Towards the end of Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, in a brief pause, Jesus explains "Do not think that I have come to abolish Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them." -Matthew 5:17. Building upon his phrase of "You are the salt of the earth", Jesus says "You are the light of this world". Hosts Doug and Robbie talk about the importance of not hiding this light, how hard it is sometimes to be and share the light, and how there can be a fine line when shining your light for yourself or Christ.

At the end of the Beatitudes, Jesus tells his Disciples " You are the salt of the Earth". But what does that even mean? How should we feel about this statement? Hosts Doug and Robbie dive into Salt, what Jesus is getting at here when he references Salt, how this statement ties into others he's given, and how we all can become saltier (in a good way).

As we jump back into the Beatitudes, Jesus says "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake". Hear hosts Robbie and Doug discuss what the differences is in being persecuted and persecuted for righteousness sake as well as give examples of those who are persecuted for the sake of their efforts to be right with God.

Last week we dove into the Beatitude of Blessed are the Peacemakers for they will be called children of god. Last week we learned about the peace you need to make with God, yourself and others and the Shalom that brings. This week Hosts Robbie and Doug dig deeper into Shalom and how today's world is mainly trying to disintegrate us from each other and family.

In the Beatitudes, Jesus says "Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they shall be called sons and daughters of God." Host's Robbie and Doug talk about and define peace, how to become a Peacemaker and why it's important to be one, and they share experiences and examples of Peacemakers.
