Disney Dependent

The finale of this two part series on the 1941 Disney Animators' strike covers the strike itself, how it came to resolution, and what happened in the aftermath.

In light of the recent WGA strikes in Hollywood, as well as the release of OPPENHEIMER and that whole foray into the Red Scare, we’re digging into the 1941 Animator’s strike, and Walt's famous hatred of unions and communism. Part one covers the events and circumstances leading up to the strike.

Part two of this True Crime miniseries focuses on the Todt Family Murders, a brutal and tragic family annihilation that occurred in Disney's planned community: Celebration, FL.

Sadly, the Disney bubble isn't as real as it often feels. We guests and our beloved Cast Members are humans, and as such are subject to the stresses and struggles of this big bad world. Part one features the murder of a Disney monorail technician, and the criminal circumstances behind one of the numerous suicides from Anaheim's Mickey and Friends Parking Structure.

In honor of Sarah's birthday we're going on a deep dive into the making of one of her (and James') favorite movies: THE BREAKFAST CLUB. This episode is chock full of stories and factoids about this iconic 80's John Hughes film.

Episode 150 y'all! And in celebration of James' 40th birthday we're taking a good hard look at the cast of one of his favorite movies of all time: FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF. Turns out the cast has committed kind of a lot of crimes! Let's dig in...

Y'all, we did it. I hope you're happy.

This week the gang covers the life story of Walt's big brother, Roy. Walt may have been the visionary, but without his brother's help we'd never even know the name "Disney".

The valiant return of Messed-Up Fairy Tales brings three deliciously insane and confusing yarns from the Brothers Grimm: a walking, talking sausage that cooks food by using its own juices, a girl that wears catskin in order to avoid marrying her father (for a while), and three masochistic idiots that like to play God with their own bodies. Enjoy!

JSBNP is back by special request from mother-to-the-pod Sue! Come learn about the disgusting and extravagant Playboy Mansion with us, we promise it will be upsetting.

Last week's episode covered the never-built Mineral King Ski Resort, one of Walt's last big dreams before he passed. This week, we cover the lasting tribute to the ski-resort-that-could-have-been: The Country Bear Jamboree.

Most hardcore Disney fans know that Walt doggedly pursued creating a Disney ski resort in the years before he passed away. But there's so much more to know! The dream he had, the history of the site, and the fight with environmental groups and public works that ultimately killed the project.

The Disney Dependent crew is all back together in the podcast studio after a month of California adventures! Please enjoy this low-effort episode about people getting embarrassed in the parks, plus more than the usual amount of off-topic nonsense you've come to know and love.

The 60's and 70's were a WILD time in America, and Disneyland experienced its own fair share of counterculture attention. This week's episode is all about the social protest park takeover that ended with riot police openly protecting our beloved Main Street, an early park closure, and a LOT of disgruntled pot-smoking long-hairs.

Now that we know how the Carthay Circle came to be, and a bit about the birth of Hollywood, let's find out how Walt Disney's bonkers master plan fits into the story. This week we learn about the first feature length animated film - the one that almost destroyed Disney.

Producer Ash and James are in Hollywood! To celebrate, let's take a deep dive into the history of Carthay Circle and the beautiful movie palace that inspired DCA's "castle"!

You've seen the film. Now find out what it was like to make it, straight from the folks who lived it!

1986 is calling, and it wants its moonwalk back! The crew finally rewatches, with their discerning adult eyes, the 17-minute long Disney sci-fi musical so you don't have to - but maybe you still should?

He's the biggest little star in the galaxy - and the story behind his creation is actually a lot cuter than you'd imagine. Come, listen to your favorite 40-somethings talk about an imaginary space jazz singer that only exists in one quick-service restaurant in WDW's Tomorrowland!
