Devoted City Church Podcast

Humanity continually chooses pride and self-direction over God's command, leading to organized rebellion and confusion, just as they did when they built a tower to make a name for themselves. We are meant to live inside God's will by trusting what He said and submitting to His authority, a foundation that is fully restored through Jesus Christ. When we ignore this, our own ambition, like b...

The serpent's temptation in Genesis 3, which questioned God's word, led to humanity's choice of self-rule over divine authority, immediately producing shame. This shame caused Adam and Eve to hide and attempt to fix themselves, but God pursued them. God provided a covering through the promised Savior, triumphing over the sin and shame that had entered the world. Thanks for listening! D...

Genesis 2 reveals God's care in forming humanity with intention, authority, and boundaries, emphasizing that God owns what He forms, not granting bodily autonomy but stewardship. This design includes work as worship and the complementary nature of men and women in marriage, with the final state of unashamed exposure being the pre-sin ideal that is restored through being "in Christ,"...

Genesis is clear that God is the Creator, so He is the ultimate Authority. Humanity's origin story settles the question of authority, identity, and morality by confronting the lie that "people define reality." The high point of creation is mankind, made as God's "image bearers," which assigns them unearned worth and establishes that identity and purpose are received fro...
