A decade under the influence

Ok so Hal Ashby directed 7 films in the 1970’s and your fearless decade under the influence crew is going to eventually watch and report on six of them. Harold and Maude is perhaps the most loved and well known of the bunch. I feel this movie to be magical and fierce and liberating. Dark yet wise revolutionary and also quite peaceful. Like punk rock as a teen this film saved my life. It’s timeless...

This is a fun one, maybe not the best audio that we've every done but what a film. This week we invite several friends over to watch Disco Godfather. A film about the dangers of PCP and the fun and sexyness of disco dancing. Another film by Rudy Ray Moore and his low budget high entertainment production company. This time we find Rudy running the hottest club in town. He's about to find out about...

Here’s where we go where many podcasters have gone before. We attempt to dive deep into Star Trek the motion picture 1979. This is one of two and quite possibly 3 Robert Wise Picures we’ll be watching and reviewing, and the only Star Trek film we’ll be doing.(70’s podcast) Now I thought that this would be great. Just 2 trek fans and 1 super trek fan rapidly talking trek and being amazing through t...

Gordon Parks does it again! I would have loved to have known him and been able to hang out with him at such a productive period of his life. Whether photographing the Black Panthers or making movies like Shaft, Super Cops, and today's film Leadbelly. He does such a great job grabbing people from the past or his present to tell important stories. — Brian W Martz <B.Martz@Genie.com> described...

Welcome to another episode of a decade under the influence. This week we watch Paul Mazursky’s 1978 classic. This film follows a woman who’s relationship ends and she starts looking more deeply at her own needs. Spending time with friends, discovering what she likes sexually, fending off idiot assholes at every turn Jill Clayburgh gives an expert performance in a rare 70’s film that centering her...

Welcome to our first short- It’s only a lil weird and confusing, but we believe that viewing and reviewing this 1980 Siskel and Ebert episode can really aid in explaining why we will not watch and review certain films that some may consider classics. Siskel and Ebert were dueling film critics at the 2 biggest Chicago papers the tribune and the sun times. This show sneak previews ran on channel 11...

Ok Here now is our feature length commentary of the greatest rampaging teenagers film of all time, in my humble opinion. Better jump in the bushes because here’s 1979’s Over the Edge. Oh it’s so destructive! Teens living in a sterile planned community with only a rec center to hang out in, proceed to lose their flippin minds when it closes due to “the man” Matt Dillon is here in his first film . D...

So we cheated a little bit this week but you will definitely benefit  from it because Ordinary People is amazing! A movie about living with  the death of a brother, the guilt of surviving, and having to deal with a  Sociopath/Narcissist as a parent. This film gets brilliant performances  from everyone involved and is written in the voice of someone who has  been through th...

Happy Birthday Lily Tomlin ! She turned 80 today and so we decided to watch The Late Show in her honor. Art Carney stars as a retired gumshoe who is enticed back into the field by the death of his long time friend and associate. He meets up with Lilly (who wears all the outfits and this may also be Frankie's back story) who's cat has been kidnapped and intrigue ensues. The Late Show was released i...

Norma Rae is amazing! This 1979 Classic stars Sally Fields as a factory worker in Alabama were she trying to do her best to make ends meet. Enter a union organizer who is ready to turn this factory into a union shop. Poverty is really on display in film and they do their best to make Alabama look like not the worst place ever. So something screwed up so the movie cuts out early (sorry) but you get...

What if there was a secret so important it was weorth threatening the end of the world to release? That's where we find ourselves in this 1977 Robert Aldrich film where the stakes couldn't be higher and if you're lucky you might make a million bucks as well. Staring Burt Lancaster , Richard Widmark , Roscoe Lee Brown e and with scenes where a level can produce such anxiety inducing drama that we s...
