a sketch, a demo, a field recording, something I heard that day, a thought and a picture.

The bells of Ludlow - sounds like some sort of test rather than intentional. Link to the post.

Reposted from September 6, 2025: Starting to cool around here, and soon the rains are coming. The is a kid's piano piece by Bartok I played on two guitar tracks, with some computer icing laid on top. This is a death-by-cuteness picture from a winery in Boonville last week. Link to the post.

Reposted from September 5, 2025: Music for the first apple picked from our 60-year-old tree. Link to the post.

September 3, 2026 03.09.2026

Reposted from September 3, 2025: Really hazy from the Bear Gulch fire, in Olympic National Park - no sign of the Aurora I thought we'd see. Link to the post.

September 2, 2026 02.09.2026

Reposted from September 2, 2025: Jeff and Andy's birthdays, and they're big ones: 50 and 80. We've been in Medocine and Boonville for Andy's, coming home for Jeff's. These distant harmonies coming across the shortwave from Mexico get me everytime. This 3-eyed bear staring at me from a beverage ad weirded me out. Link to the post.

Reposted from September 1, 2025: There's no foghorn in Mendocino anymore, but there is this low pulse you can hear from a buoy offshore. Just a small atmosphere here, based off a sample of that buoy. In a fit of synchronicity, my waterbottle struck the same pitch when I knocked on it! This is the universe talking to me. Pictured is a hive in the forest by the Mendocino Grove glamp-ground. Almo...

Reposted from August 31, 2024: Metallica hit town just as we were heading off for 2 weeks in Croatia - Rob and Brian at work went, which sparked a whole conversation on what is good/bad metal from their blossoming and what constituted 'good' Metallica. They have been lost on me for decades, but there was a time when I heard sounds on their records that felt as.. what's the word for rec...

Reposted from August 30, 2025: Medocino AM 1550 collage - couldn't find any info about this station. Link to the post.

Reposted from August 29, 2025: Boonville audio collage - distant music, crickets, draining tub, light, footsteps. Link to the post.

Reposted from August 28, 2025: Last weekend acoustic time playing Medicine Hat's Breaking with Jason. Joe makes an appearance on vocals, I think. Link to the post.

August 27, 2026 27.08.2026

Reposted from August 27, 2025: Joe says I've given my dad the Bill Laswell treatment. Thank you dad for your gift of song!!! Seriously: my folks are so awesome, and they always leave us these great messages. We are so lucky. Link to the post.

August 26, 2026 26.08.2026

Reposted from August 26, 2025: We got married 25 years ago today, and our band name is the Unstoppable Force. Link to the post.

August 25, 2026 25.08.2026

Reposted from August 25, 2025: The night before our anniversay - our first night in California. I am so lucky to be with this woman. Link to the post.

August 24, 2026 24.08.2026

Reposted from August 24, 2025: Friday before Mike and Anna's big Aquarium shindig, we're reliving the early 2000s with Joe watching the first season of Lost and drinking every time Walt's dad says "My Boy!". We have tons of crickets, going day and night - here's the shadow of one crawling the sliding glass door at sunset. Link to the post.

Reposted from August 23, 2025: Thursday eve, just as vacation is about to begin. This giant hive sits to the north of our driveway, a safe distance for viewing. Link to the post.

Late night. Link to the post.

August 21, 2026 21.08.2026

Reposted from August 21, 2025: I get so grounded playing Michael Hedges' music. Working through a little bit of Bensusan, accompanied by last night's owls and coyotes. Link to the post.

August 20, 2026 20.08.2026

Reposted from August 20, 2025: Tape 15 again - 1995 4 tracking again. Really working to get an interesting sound out of the touch-wah preset on this ART multieffect unit I had. Link to the post.

August 19, 2026 19.08.2026

Reposted from August 19, 2025: Tape 15 again - 1995 4 tracking. I loved the artificial harmonic in the evil repeating figure. Link to the post.

August 18, 2026 18.08.2026

Reposted from August 18, 2025: A bunch of textures on this tape - Tape 15. I started this audio journal approach with the 4 track, where I'd just number and date tapes, and let the sounds flow. Link to the post.

August 17, 2026 17.08.2026

Reposted from August 17, 2025: A lot of pieces like this where I abused varispeed to get to a tempo I couldn't quite reach. It's fun to pull these out, align them on a grid in Ableton, and lay the drums I remember WISHING I had the ability to program and line up on tape. Link to the post.

August 16, 2026 16.08.2026

Reposted from August 16, 2025: 1995 4 tracking again, and again I have no recollection of where/why for this one. My friend Craig perma-loaned me a full size keyboard with a bunch of preset sounds and rhythm patterns, and occasionally I hear it's drum machine creep in. Link to the post.

August 15, 2026 15.08.2026

Reposted from August 15, 2025: 1995 4 tracking with a little help from Ableton. I have no recollection of where/why for this one, but I have this sanitized memory of my 20s sounding like this: endless afternoons of noodly overdubbing guitars, working my way intuitively towards something that works. And I had to have harmonics in everything. Link to the post.

August 14, 2026 14.08.2026

Reposted from August 14, 2025: More 4 tracking - this is from 1995. My first little movie soundtrack for my brother's short "The Loner". Wow isn't that the sound of loneliness?! I had a Dearmond phase pedal that let you control the speed of the phase with a rocker, like you see on a volume or wah wah - that's the backwards sound you here. Link to the post.
