Loving the Scriptures

What does it mean for the Holy Spirit to have guided the disciples into all the truth? What would that have meant to them, and how did such guidance manifest itself to them after Jesus left? And how can that boost our confidence when it comes to reading the Word of God today? We explore these things in this episode.   Order a copy of my book:  Signs of the End : What Jesus Taught His Disciples in...

In this episode, we begin to look at John 16, where Jesus encourages His disciples regarding the sending of the Helper, and explaining how such a gift from God will work in convicting the world that persecutes His people. We will learn what He means when He says that the Holy Spirit will convict the world regarding sin, righteousness, and judgment.   Order a copy of my book:  Signs of the End : Wh...

Many Christians think that if we walk in love, then we are more likely to escape persecution. But is this really the case? In this episode, we look at what Jesus had to say to His disciples and find out why unbelievers hate and persecute Christians, and why it is important for us to know today.   Order a copy of my book:  Signs of the End : What Jesus Taught His Disciples in the Olivet Discourse A...

In this episode, I do something I've never done before by having another voice that delivers the Word of God. I share a sermon on sanctification by Pastor Mark Jones from my church. I thought this message was very, very good and thought I would share it with you, especially in light of what we've been talking about in John 15 about bearing fruit. Note: In the introduction to this episode, I inaccu...

In this episode, we talk about the final "I Am" statement said by Jesus Christ in the Gospel of John: "I am the true vine." What does it mean for Jesus to be the vine, The Father as the vinedresser, and us as the branches, and what does this illustration say about God's work in us for our sanctification?   Order a copy of my book:  Signs of the End : What Jesus Taught His Disciples in the Olivet D...

In this episode we discuss sanctification, which may be considered a forgotten or neglected aspect of our salvation. In this episode we partake of another sermon from my Attributes of God series. This time we explore two attributes: the omniscience and omnipresence of God. The peace of Christ is something that does not compare to any other kind of peace the world may attempt to offer. For the disciples and for us by extension, Jesus provides this peace. In this episode, as we finish our look at John 14, we talk about the nature of this peace and why it is superior to anything that the world gives.   Order a copy of my book:  Signs of the End : What Jesus Taught His...

How does Jesus' promise about the sending of the Spirit of truth (the Helper) serve as comfort to His disciples in the upper room (and us by extension)? Why is He called the Spirit of truth, and why can't He be received by the world? We answer these questions in this episode in our continued look at John 14.   Order a copy of my book:  Signs of the End : What Jesus Taught His Disciples in the Oliv...

In the book of John, talk of the unity of the triune God has been mentioned. In John 14 specifically, that unity, particularly of the Father and the Son, is revisited, and it is in the quest to fill the disciples' minds with understanding (even though they should have already understood) and comfort. In this episode, as we examine the words of our Lord in this matter, we also talk ministry and pra...

Many of us are familiar with Jesus' words in John 14:6, where He identifies Himself as the way, and the truth, and the life, and stating that no one comes to the Father except through Him We usually apply this verse evangelistically when preaching the gospel to unbelievers. And while this is a truth that non-Christians should hear, we must understand that in context, this verse is spoken to believ...

In John 13 Jesus gives His disciples the  new  command to love one another. But why is this command called new, given the fact that the command to love has been given by God in the past? And how can this command to love one another be connected to what Jesus predicts about Peter's denial of the Lord three times? We talk about these things in this episode.    Order a copy of my book:  Signs of the...

Many of us may be familiar with the biblical scene of Jesus washing His disciples' feet. How does the unbelief of the religious Jews expose a level of inconsistency in their thinking? In the closing summary section of John 12, Jesus lays forth this inconsistency by reviewing the tandem mission of the Father and the Son. That is what we explore in this episode.   Order a copy of my book:  Signs of the End : What Jesus Taught His Disciples in the Olivet Discourse Amazon: https://a.co/d/...

In this episode we cover the subject of the hardening of sinners' hearts...and that done by God. This is something that makes Christians uncomfortable, and has resulted in attempts to try to "sanitize" what the pages of Scripture say. But our concern is with dealing with what the Bible truly says, and taking it at face value. So how are we to understand this? That's what we will attempt to do as w...

In this episode, we talk about Jesus' exhortation in John 12 to His audience to believe in the light while they have the light. What does it mean to believe (or walk) in the light?
