Anime Pulse

Hey there folks. Water your horse and giddy on up. Put on your boots and check the local wanted posters. We’ve got a Western on deck this week because we wanted to mix it up. Not as well as your counter top appliance with a wire beater. Maybe like a hand held mixer with a paddle beater. We have Red Sun(1971). A Charles Bronson movie set in the old west where the Japanese have sent some diplomats i...

This week on Anime Pulse we got rude teachers, no new year resolutions, and reverse isekai. Up first Joseph was a good citizen and turned in a cell phone to the police, and Andrew asks the community what the best anime of 2023 were. Then in the industry news an ESL teacher in Japan tries to pass of being an asshole as an "American Joke", and theater staff are increasingly annoyed by the movie tie-...

Line up folks. It’s episode five hundred and five. Which is always a bit awkward to type out. We were once told that the and in number was for describing decimal points. Yet it feels natural to write it out like that. Then when we go and check style guides and they say that it’s better to use numerals for larger numbers because writing it out wastes space. Screw you, style guides, we have near inf...

Then in the industry news some robo vacuums...

More Bond for the Bond god. We’ve got a whole crate of Gold Bond medicated powder. Because all these movies are old and old people like talc. Plus it’s got gold right in the name so it’s almost related. We start off with our boy Sean in Goldfinger(1964). This is the movie where all the elements come together. If you’ve never seen a Bond movie, you’re aware of this through sheer cultural osmosis. T...

This week on Anime Pulse we got an invisible man, the big questions in anime, and warm weather in December. Up first Joseph enjoys the unseasonably warm weather while reading about an assassin who porks the demon queen, and Andrew is in Scotland with no connection issues at all. Then in the industry news we have a rare Joseph pizza as he talks about a man arrested for running over a flying rat, an...

We’ve gone and done it again. Forgone the usual schedule to stay on the topic of our favorite British secret service agents. No, not Christopher Lee. Though maybe he should enter the equation some time. And he will make an appearance in this little deviation we’re enjoying. Until then, we start with From Russia With Love(1963). Anchoring the whole shebang is our man, Connery. The second Bond movie...

We’ve talked about it for quite some time. Teased and hinted at doing something a little unorthodox from the norm. So we’ve broken down and gone and done it. We’ve leaned into the universe of James Bond. Helped by the fact it’s all free on a certain streaming service we don’t advertise for free. We have to start with the first of course. Dr No(1962), while not the first novel, was the first adapta...

This week on Anime Pulse we got Thanksgiving afterthoughts, the last week of the Fall Festival Giveaway Entry, and the strongest exorcist without a dick. Then in the industry news One Piece is so big that even the LA Rams want in on it, and the author and mangak...

It’s time to get dried out from all the aquatic themed books we’ve done. What better place than Arrakis, Dune, desert planet. The Frank Herbert novel is getting another adaptation soon-ish. It’s a classic space opera where one family attempts to trap another on a hostile world to be exterminated. The mix of Muad’dib and the spice of the planet allows Paul to survive and thrive. Being a scifi novel...

Then in the industry news Areosmith gets their own Japanese themed snack, a Sugar Baby is in deep with the law, and...

Alright. We’ve got two sample bottles of scotch and two mangas. No funny business or running gags. No diversionary little anecdotes that are about as pointless as a marble. Perhaps a little bit of rambling that goes nowhere like a road to an abandoned farm which has antiques you can steal. They’re haunted as a matter of course. Have a priest’s number on hand before you go barn looting. Tim has Cho...

This week on Anime Pulse we got solo Joseph, no news topic, and what may very well be the fastest Anime Pulse episode ever. Up first Joseph mentions how terrible the Pokemon Violet DLC was, and about how he is looking forward to going to Wendy's on Friday. Then in the industry news he talks about a man arrested for ninja washing a lady's underwear, and some Pokemon themed doughnuts found exclusive...

It’s October, as we recorded this anyways. And we needed something that fitted within the spirit of the season. That spirit is whiskey and it’s a perennial favorite of ours. That spirit guided us towards our patron saint, senor Nicolas Cage. We’re pretty sure he was knighted in Spain so he can be called senor as a title. That’s right, we have Renfield[2023]. It’s modern day and we join Renfield tr...

Hello, we’re Manga Pulse and we thank you for choosing us today. We have a lovely set of specials right now. A very seasonal word salad made from only the worst quality slang and confusion. Peppered with silliness brought on by anything mentioned within the news. Braised with whatever alcohol was on sale. This is all paired with a tasty set of reviews on only the freshest of manga, left to sit on...

We need some sort of inspiration for a film choice. We’ve drawn from novel adaptations. Foreign films. Ok, let’s see if we can find a movie based on a hentai. We’ll just turn to the old fashioned internet oracle. And that was darn fast. Though this is less hentai and more ecchi. Fuck it, we ball. We’ve got Kite[2014]. India Eisley is a girl who murders people. Samuael Jackson is sort of her handle...

We don’t always review manga but when we do, we do. And sometimes we do only one. But we’re pretty sure that hasn’t happened a whole lot. Unless it does and then we don’t care. But we also don’t want to be badgered by anyone if we’re wrong. Tim has Beet the Vandel Buster. Beet, named after his father’s favorite crop to grow because this is a fantasy universe originating from The Office. Dwight’s l...
