A Wee Bit Gothic

MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYONE! Hope you're having a wonderful Christmas and spending time with the people you love, if possible. If not, don't worry! The time will come soon enough, This week Hannah talks about the world of Scottish Panto, its origins and tropes, while Chris takes a dip into old Scottish Christmas traditions with a bonus ghost story! 

Hannah takes on her first ever solo episode by telling you all M.R. James'  haunting story Oh, Whistle, And I'll Come To You, My Lad . The story was read at a Christmas gathering in 1903 then published the following year as part of the anthology Ghost Stories of an Antiquary . The title of the story is taken from a 1793 poem by Robert Burns written to an old Scottish air.

This week Chris give you the scoop on The Exorcist curse! Hannah takes us to the Gorbals in search of the Gorbals Vampire 

This week Hannah shares the Glasgow based legend of Matthew Clydesdale; The Glasgow Frankenstein. Chris takes us to his home county to tell the story of the women and men accused of witchcraft during the North Berwick Witch Trials.

This week Chris rounds off his murder quartet and talks about how they're all connected, while Hannah gives her piece on the controversial man P.T. Barnum and the two Scottish women in his employ. 

This week Hannah delves into the story of Half Hang't Maggie while Chris talks about Glasgow's Human Crocodile in part 3 of his murder quartet. 

Chris takes us through murder number 2 of his Glasgow Murder Quartet, while Hannah tells us about the history and Scottish backstory of Gaetano Donizetti's opera Lucia di Lammermoor. 

This week Hannah talks about one of her favourite episodes of a very famous British TV program, which dips its toes into the waters of gothic from time-to-time.
