The Guinness Book of Records and the compression of creativity 24.07.2024

Send us Fan Mail The Guinness Book of Records and the compression of creativity. There is a celebration of the large scale in the creative product across many contexts. It reminds me of the celebration of the record breaking achievements found in the Guinness book of records. The human achievement is justified by its scale rather than its worth on any other dimension. Heaviest train pulled with be...

Wit and Wisdom. Early July, 2024 03.07.2024

Send us Fan Mail Wit and Wisdom Early July Unsurprisingly, this wit and wisdom edition has a political flavour during the run-up to the British general election on July 4. A special general election edition is planned for that date. @henrywinter Abbreviated from a long and heart-cry of anguish by a football journalist over England’s last qualifying match at the Euros.  The heat was on here, and no...

Biden Trump debate. First reactions: A disaster for Biden. 28.06.2024

Send us Fan Mail Friday 28 June, 2024 The debate was scheduled for 2am British Summer Time. Wisely or not, I started listening , then dragged myself out of bed to watch the debate. It was slightly surreal viewing. The two protagonists stood behind space-age podiums (podia?). Behind them, a vast vacant area reminding me of a gigantic lecture theatre. Two interrogators sometimes visible pose careful...

General Election Diary, Weeks 3-4, June 2024 26.06.2024

Send us Fan Mail General Election Diary, Weeks 3-4, June 2024 Week 3 Thursday 13 June The Labour manifesto concentrates on wealth creation. A plan to replace the Lords seems to have been watered down.  Yet another seven a side debate, but without  two major figures Sunak and Starmer. Penny Mordaunt and Angela Rayner resume hostilities. Rather unenlightening. Stephen Flynn, for the SNP, Daisy Coope...

I think he’s using the terms in a far from stupid way to avoid givin...
