How should believers think rightly about death?

We are all familiar with the idea of death. But what really happens at death and why is this a universal reality?

Consider the illustrations the Bible uses regarding death to learn more about this reality that every person faces.

Man pursues false religion in order to diminish the glory of God and to allow for his own self-rule.

Instead of worshipping the true God of the Bible, man turns from what he knows and decides to worship idols.

Hard-hearted rebellion against God leads to flawed thinking, a darkened mind, and self-confident foolishness.

From God's perspective, as revealed in the Bible, Christian theism is the only correct worldview.

How does sinful man respond when good things happen in his life?

The foundation of human sinfulness begins with man's hard-heartedness towards God.

The kingdoms of this world are human and temporary; only God's kingdom is eternal.

Although God disclosed His plan in Nebuchadnezzar's dream, neither Nebuchadnezzar nor anyone else would have ever known its significance or meaning unless God had revealed it.

God sovereignly governs both the eras of human history and the individual events that make up those eras.

The distinguishing characteristic of a prophet is that they receive divine revelation from God. In the book of Daniel, God raises up Daniel to be His prophet in order to reveal the Word of God.

Through Nebuchadnezzar's dream God reveals that He is sovereign and that no one can thwart His plan for human history.

Why should a church have a high view of Jesus Christ and the gospel?

Every ministry of the church must ultimately be rooted in the truth of who Jesus is and what He accomplished.

What does it mean to have a biblical view of the church, and how do you identify differences between true and false churches?

A biblical view of the church means that the leadership intentionally structures church life to reflect what the Bible teaches.

Today we come to the fourth hallmark, and it’s how a biblical church intentionally structures church life to reflect what the Bible teaches. Friend, does your own church place a high priority on that? One that reflects what the Bible actually teaches?

If a church truly has a biblical view of man, it will teach that man's only hope is outside of himself in the person of Jesus Christ.

As Tom will show us in today’s study, a biblical understanding of man puts into perspective man’s condition before a holy God: He is a wretched sinner, one who has rebelled and sinned against a holy God and is thus unable to save himself.

The truth is that a biblical church understands and embraces what the Bible teaches about man: his nature, problems, and their solutions. While the culture continues to understand man through psychology and other philosophies, we, as Christians, must be committed to what the Bible says about man.

In order for a church to be both biblical and spiritually healthy, it’s essential they have a high view of God’s Word. In other words, they must treat the Bible with the utmost respect as they would God Himself.

For a church to be a biblical church, they must affirm that the Bible is God-breathed, it is sufficient, and it speaks authoritatively for all of life, including how churches should conduct themselves.

On today’s program, Tom Pennington demonstrates from Scripture that all biblical churches must have a high view of God—and their philosophy of ministry must flow from that commitment.
