The Silver Linings Playlist

With his next film Dune on the horizon, Denis Villeneuve is a director that “doesn’t miss”. And Prisoners is no exception. An incredibly well-paced thriller that covers the difficult subject matter of child abduction, excruciating torture, and toxic masculinity, this is one of best directed, shot, and acted films around. Returning guest Coby Evans joins us to dissect the film and its many facets,...

Boy, where to start on this one. While Prince is undeniably a musical genius that comes along once a generation, his acting skills…not so much. Is Under the Cherry Moon even a movie? Is Prince the femme fatale of the film? Are Tricky and Christopher brothers, cousins, or lovers? There’s so many questions left unanswered, but we’ll try to figure things out the best we can. Plus, we’ll discuss the i...

There are a lot of themes running throughout 2020’s Promising Young Woman ; we’re just not sure what the ultimate message is. That being said, this is a film that places an uncomfortable mirror in front of the viewer and forces you to look into it. And we’ll do our best to try to look inward and address the many problems with the film and ourselves with returning guest Jennie Lee. We’ll also discu...

2002’s Resident Evil directed by Paul W. S. Anderson caused a ripple effect amongst the gaming franchise’s fanbase that divided the community seemingly in half. While some appreciate the attempt to expand the property beyond the video game consoles, others ridicule the film for what would come after it; a slew of near-lifeless, uninspired, high budget, schlocky sequels that left a bad taste in man...

Well, bitch, summer is coming to an end, and what better way to close it out than by discussing the massive summer blockbuster - and incredibly dreadful - Freddy vs. Jason from 2003? Two titans of the slasher genre are reduced to bumbling doofuses and are plagued by the absolute worst people in this barely-a-movie...movie. So much happens in this 97 minute flick that it took us almost twice as lon...

Who doesn’t love an aptly named movie? 1996’s Sleepers is a 2 hour and 27 minute film with about 12 minutes of story - and even those 12 minutes are virtually unbearable. But that’s not to say there aren’t some wild moments to talk about. In this week’s episode, we’ll cover the movie in full plus the undeniable similarities it shares with a famous Stephen King property, the uselessness of the “bas...

In a world filled with multiple billion dollar movies, they can’t all be The Avengers or The Lord of the Rings . Some of them are (unfortunately) Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom . This one has to be in the top 5 dumbest movies of all time - and we’ll dissect every factor that makes it so. So buckle up, because there’s a lot to discuss including the wrong way to adopt a child, putting a stop to Coli...

With the recent release of Sir Nicolas Cage’s Pig , it’s time we reevaluate one of the more recent prestige Cage films with the wild ride that is 2018’s Mandy . One-half a psychedelic, slow burn horror film, one-half blood-soaked revenge thriller, this one’s a ton of fun. So take some recreational drugs or pop open that vodka bottle and dive down the rabbit hole with us as we debate which Nic Cage...

Life’s a funny thing; not this one, though. Despite all the rumors, Life (2017) wasn’t a Venom prequel, nor a secret Cloverfield sequel. It was just…fine. That being said, we have a lot to talk about with this one. Is Joseph Gordon-Levitt a good actor? Does Kim Kardashian have a bathroom secret? What would Jurassic Park look like without the dinosaurs? All of that and more - plus, ya know, some of...

It’s been 20 years since the remake and 10 since the reboot, so what better time to dive back into the Apes franchise than now? We already covered the remake way back in episode 2, but now we’re finally taking on the original. It’s 1968’s Planet of the Apes - a movie that seems to be ironically making a statement that’s the complete opposite of its intentions. Does this classic sci-fi adventure fi...

Finally, after years apart, we’re back in the universe of Jimmy - no, wait - James Bond. And with No Time to Die (hopefully) on the horizon, we thought now would be a great time to break open the massive blockbuster that is Casino Royale and see what it’s all about with a special crossover featuring the host of the ohsix/ohseven podcast and returning guest Johnny “Utah” Hoffler Jr. If you play you...

If you thought last week’s movie was an odd one, wait until you feast your eyes on 1987’s Angel Heart . Somehow simultaneously boring as sin and yet fascinatingly weird, this one’s got plenty to talk about - and we’ll do just that. So hop on the elevator that’s only going down as we discuss Dustin’s Lisa Bonet and Jason Momoa stories, Chekov’s gumbo, the best part of every diner, and a hell (pun i...

We’re back in the saddle with the premiere of Season 5, and in keeping with our Aronofsky tradition, we kick off the season by doing some long division to try to find the end result of Pi . Did this film indirectly influence The Matrix ? What’s going on with those ants? And why did so many metal bands from the early 2000s sample this movie? We’ll get to the bottom of all of that, plus we’ll discus...
