Roll Film

Christmas may be over but our reviews live on! This week is a very special episode for the Roll Film crew. There's some deep moments, some laughs and the realization that the holidays and movies about them mean so much more to us than just some entertainment. They draw us together, even when we're apart. Happy Holidays from the Roll Film crew!

CARRY ON OUR WAYWARD POD! Ok, this episode has nothing to do with the iconice band Kansas, but it does go perfectly with our holiday movie theme. Brining our seasoned guest Mindy Painter back to discuss this Netflix original with the Roll Film crew. Does this movie have the marks of the next Die Hard? Or does it's flight get cancelled before it even takes off? Give it a listen and let us know!

Oh the weather outside is frightful, but the movies are so delightful. Roll Film has a doozy of an episode for you today, and with that we knew we needed not 1 but 2 special guests to help us dissect Hot Frosty. This Netflix original really surprised us, we'll let you decide if it was a bad or good surprise. Listen as we discuss the absurdity of the plot and Frosty's abs.

It's that time of year again! That magical season where everyone watched movies about demons. But for real, Paramount + has decided to add a little evil to their new holiday movie Dear Santa. The Roll Film crew didn't hate this interesting take on Christmas but it's no angel either. Listen to our first of many holiday movie reviews all Decemeber long!

Let's see those ghostly grins! It's Halloween and it's our last review for spooky season! The Roll Film crew knew we had to go big for you and we decided to review the sequel Smile 2. Greg and Jon both really enjoyed this one, listen as the discuss what it did well and where they think it's driving horror. Thanks for a great season, we're taking the month of November off and we'll be back for some...

Do not adjust your television sets! Because why would you? You're listening to a podcast not watching a tv show! This week's episode is all about the late night talk show vibes of the past sprinkled in with some demonic posession. The Roll Film crew discusses what makes this film so fantastic and why you should tune in to this awesome spin on a classic genre.

Won't you be our neighbor and listen to today's erie episode? We'll be reviewing Hulu's new horror film Mr. Crocket. This movie is like if you combine A Nightmare On Elm St with Mister Rogers and it does not disappoint. I think we may have a new franchise on our hands. Give us a listen and you decide!

Spooky season continues and we've got a divisive one for you. The Roll Film crew watched Dark Harvest a unique 2023 release and Greg and Jon can't seem to agree on it. But we can all agree that you should give this episode a listen!

SPOOKY SEASON IS UPON US! And what better way to start this wonder time than with a horror comedy from one of the most prolific bands of all time, The Foo Fighters' Studio 666. Listen as the Roll Film crew marvels at Dave Grohl's homage to horror classics while throwing in some great laughs.

We decided for our last Jason Statham film this month we'd review his family classic The Meg. And since this movie always brings the family together Greg invited his son Jack to join us in reviewing this fun creature feature that unites us all. Thanks for a great Statham September! We'll see you in October for some spooky silliness!

Statham September is bring it home...front. While that doesn't really sound right our episode does! The Roll Film crew reviews one of Statham's more grounded action flicks written by none other than Sylvester Stallone himself. While this movie impressed us on our first watch we soon realize that feeling doesn't last. Take a listen to a review of this lesser known Statham flick.

Statham September marches on with Jason's first leading role, The Transporter. We bring back seasoned special guest Jeff Williams to talk about Statham's leap to action movies. We hope this episode transports you to a happy place and if not at least there's a lot to talk about.

It's a new month with a new theme. It's time to join us on Statham September! To kick off this most sacred month we're starting with one of his earlier projects, Guy Richie's Snatch. It's easy to forget that Statham starting his acting career in character driven dialogue heavy films. Listen as we discuss this GEM of a movie (get it?).

Alien August comes to a close, and with the end of the month we have a brand new movie to discuss! Alien Romulus being the most recent entry in the franchise divides our host so we needed to bring in a tie breaker Mindy Painter. Mindy being well versed in Alien gives her take while we all take on the most recent facehugging fun time! Thanks for joining us this month and be on the lookout for Jason...

Ridley Scott is back to direct an Alien movie so we matched that energy with bringing back one of our favorite special guests C Thane Dixon! Listen as we discuss what, if anything, Covenant added to Alien franchise. Does Covenant set the rest of the series up for success or is it time for the Alien franchise's bubble to chest burst?

Whoever wins...at least we all had fun! Welcome back to Alien August at Roll Film! We hope you're ready for a fun ride of crossover chaos! The Roll Film crew decided to pick the sequel to the much despised first AVP because let's face it, it's a party! AVPR might not be put into the Criterion Collection anytime soon but its definitely a perfect fit for your own creature collection.

What better way to end twin movie month with real life twins Steve and Scott Grinstead!? For a pair of epic guests we had to have an epic pair of twin movies! So give us a listen as we discuss two disaster movies and why they're both great.

It's twin time! The whole month of June Roll Film is reviewing and comparing movies that came out around the same time that have very similar stories. Since we already reviewed The Prestige we knew we had to complete the twin powers and review The Illusionist. See if both these movies are worth your time!

It's the last week of Star Wars month on Roll Film and we had to get in at least one special meta Star Wars movie. We also knew we had to get a special meta guest, coming back for his fourth time Aaron Newton. Listen how we all review the high potential low executed movie Fanboys. We may unearth potention theories as to why this movie fails to deliver but hopefully we were at least a new hope...
