Off The Hook With Gage

There's an old saying in radio.  I forget what it is and nobody says it anymore, but suffice it to say, it doesn't apply to OFF THE HOOK, a radio program utterly unprecedented in a time-honored way! * OFF THE HOOK puts a capital M on music and a capital FU on rules and expectations (and professionalism, quite frankly)! * Danger lurks around every mic break, but your host is no hollow weenie, just...

Today on OFF THE HOOK, we mourn the loss and celebrate the music of two IDIOSYNCRATIC musical minds: the whimsical and ICONOCLASTIC "jazz" genius CARLA BLEY and inscrutably CHARISMATIC "power popper" DWIGHT TWILLEY! * We'll likely have to go into extra-time to properly cover these two UNIQUE musical one-offs, but it will be a most enjoyable and edifying excursion! * Tune in for RESPECT and fun on...

It's time again for OFF THE HOOK!, the Friday Frolic that every week waddles into the hearts of the lumpen masses -its cringing, fawning fandom-, smothering with blankety piles of blubbery goo(d)ness! * Like a dirge on a barge, an iceberg in pursuit, you can't escape this scuzzy slow motion snow cone because it's already in your mind! * The iceberg, the challenge, it makes less sense when you list...

Even though I lovingly prepare BEAUTIFUL AND STIMULATING programs for you every week, let's face it, OFF THE HOOK is really for ME. * And if you're like me, you're an impatiently anxious connoisseur because you know there's not enough time to cram in all of the GREAT NEW MUSIC in a three-hour show! * There's the Birthday Segment and Uncle Gagie's Singles Box, too! * I hope you will join me in sayi...

On OFF THE HOOK you get QUALITY that can't be bought! (it comes free as a "thank you" for donating to the station) * And what do you get for opening your wallet when you really didn't have to, but in a way you do? * You get the VITAL resource of UNCENSORED (except for the poo-poo) programming that allows you to hear STRIKING new material that I'd probably get fired for playing on another station (...

On today's Show That Shows, we show you what those silly things on the side of your head are for! * In addition to EXCITING NEW SOUNDS, oldies lovers will THRILL to a bumper crop of Birthday Celebrations! * Not only will we have Ticket Giveaways, but KXSF legend, the DJ formerly known as FLYING JAPAN will be making a SURPRISE VISIT to tell his story! * And we'll still find time for some shameless...

Enjoy SILKY SOUNDS in an environment of utter confusion! * How does Kenady turn what should be a walk in the park into a HIGHWIRE ACT? * And why does he speak of himself in the THIRD PERSON? * Because, let's face it, OFF THE HOOK is bigger than the both of them! * Be real for once and get down to sounds that'll have you driving through the park! * OFF THE HOOK, crashing in silk pajamas at 1:00 on...

OFF THE HOOK: your weekly new music GO-TO. * But, where does your go-to COME FROM? * In a laboratory, surrounded by fuming beakers of pure sound, cackling to himself as he pursues his WARPED musical vision, a modern alchemist seeks a panacea to the problem of dull radio! * His ceaseless curiosity and IDIOSYNCRATIC tastes ensure that, but is the world ready for his weekly monsters? * An on-going ex...

He goes his own way with little to say. * On his radio show, OFF THE HOOK, he lets the music do the talking! * He's GAGE KENADY, his maverick status is legendary, and he WANTS YOU to join the ranks of the hoards (soon to be legion) of listeners trying to CRACK the code of THIS man's musical MIND: sweet sailing, then BANG! -there's that bit of dissonance he seems to require! * What makes this man t...

My listener, The MUSIC SNOB: The music he MUST HEAR on OFF THE HOOK is NOW and shouldn't have to wait 10, 20 years for others to learn about and appreciate. * Is it too much to ask of just one measly radio program to be up-to-date? * If OFF THE HOOK must work so hard to please its toughest customer, to constantly scour the interwebs in search of the NEWEST and MOST NOVEL musical selections to sati...

The attention-grabbing antics of OFF THE HOOK are pretty much limited to these posts. * For the OFF THE HOOK show itself is a refined and generally sober experience that is above hyperbolic (often false) come-ons like "GYRATE MADLY TO THE FANTASTICALLY PULSATING SOUNDS OF OFF THE HOOK!" * nor needs to lure your libido with suggestive lines like "PROBING NEW SOUNDS THAT WILL PENETRATE THE INNER REC...

Move your hand to the right, shut the alarm * Hop five steps, turn the radio on * Throw your butt in the chair, take a puff: You're doin' the OFF THE HOOK! * (come on, it's easy!) * Get a-tappin' your feet, sip your bev * Leap out of your seat, bust a move * Throw your hands in the air, text a friend: we're doin' the OFF THE HOOK! * (getting more complicated now) * Get a quizzical look, knit your...

Ever feel like an ABDUCTEE? * Every Friday at 1:00 pm a switch flips in your head and you hypnotically make your way to the radio to have EXPERIMENTS performed on you by OFF THE HOOK! * How this thing started you don't remember, and where/when/how will it end?? * No one puts a gun to your head and OFF THE HOOK cleverly absolved itself of any responsibility from the get-go with the disclaimer of it...

Sleep lost, relationships destroyed, bank account drained. * If that's the cost to produce INCREDIBLY STIMULATING RADIO, what do you care? * As long as it arrives on time, every week, on a silver platter, that's HIS sacrifice. * But ain't it funny that the thing that's aging Our Hero faster than a grape in the Mojave is the thing that's keeping him alive? * A high price to pay, but it's the only w...

You gotta love KXSF, the radio station * I mean, it's got all kindsa shows * from classy Classical, funky Jazz and punky Punk, to happy hoedowns and World Beat that can't be beat! * The friendly familiar sounds you can leave on non-stop to help you through your workaday world! * (did I forget to mention Rock'n'Roll?) * And there's The Show That Shows: OFF THE HOOK, a "destination show" for listene...

When is a Neil not an eel? * When it's a-kneel! * Well, then and all other times, too, when you think about it. * Necessarily true. * But OFF THE HOOK holds no truck with homespun prairie philosophies. * It is guided only by the inner logic of its poet-host, whoever he'll be. * And spit piffles tho it must, OFF THE HOOK's stern ripostes mayn't be worthy of reposts, but the sour confetti of a thous...

The REAL THING! * or is it? * OFF THE HOOK has been known for its QUIRKY PERSONA, but is it now a FAKE SO DEEP that every miscue, every verbal gaffe and every PERPLEXING bit of programming has been replicated? * And was it ever so? * Is Gage Kenady the creator or the creation? * Even he is now asking himself this question! * And why aren't you asking the same question about yourself? * Probably be...

SIGH! PURR! * Not words that generally elicit all-caps exclamation points * But how else to express the fact that the OFF THE HOOK radio program needn't hit you over the head with overly aggressive stimuli in order to bring you the BAM! of a gossamer-light/musically-heavy chamber piece or the POW! of a psyche-twisting lyric that has you questioning everything you thought you knew about yourself? *...
