My Haunted Head

Kent Collins grew up as a Monster Kid, feeding his haunted head a steady diet of Universal Monsters and DC comics through the late 1970's and early 1980's. And then horror slashed its way into his life in a big way when he saw FRIDAY THE 13th and SLEEPAWAY CAMP.  Kent and I kept showing up at the same events this past year or two, so I decided it was time to make a proper introduction from one mon...

It seems like every few years movie fans are treated to a heaping helping of deja vu, when Hollywood releases a series of similarly-themed films.  In 1996, there was TWISTER and its doppelganger TORNADO starring Bruce Campbell.  In 1997 we got DANTE'S PEAK and VOLCANO.  1998 brought us the extinction-level comet crisis films DEEP IMPACT and the macho cheese of Michael Bay's ARMAGEDDON.  So for epi...

Following 1968's NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, George A. Romero directed a pair of non-horror films (THE AFFAIR and SEASON OF THE WITCH) that have either eluded or underwhelmed longtime fans who preferred the darker and gruesome later work he is most known for.  But in 1973 George Romero completed THE CRAZIES, a film steeped in chaos and fear.  THE CRAZIES tells a story of contagion in a small communi...

KNIGHTRIDERS was not only one of George A. Romero's rare non-horror films, and one of his personal favorites of his own films, but it has a lot to offer fans of Romero classics like MARTIN, DAWN OF THE DEAD, CREEPSHOW and DAY OF THE DEAD.  With the involvement of actors and collaborators spanning NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD in 1968 to LAND OF THE DEAD in 2005, the collective talent behind KNIGHTRIDER...

Whether it was one of his many appearances on television, or one of the many genre films he did in the late 70's and early 80's, Christopher George left an indelible mark in television and film.  In much the same way that actor Robert Forster brought a believable everyman quality to a variety of roles, Christopher George was able to slip comfortably from drama to action and horror in a way that ma...

Frank Henenlotter's films are hard to nail down.   They're not conventional horror films so much as they are bizarre dramas featuring extreme (and often fantastical) physical deformity, addiction, sex, violence and bloodshed.  All filtered through a darkly comic lens.  In much the same way David Cronenberg's films are not for everyone, the same could be said for Frank Henenlotter's films.  But if...
