Hillside Covenant Church

Hello Hillside! Welcome to Advent 2021. We are starting a new series called “Kingly Visions”. What did the prophets hear when the Spirit spoke to them about Christmas and the arriving King? Our first vision is from the prophet Jeremiah, where God promises the gift of the Righteous King. Join with Hillside Covenant Church as Stephen Wysong teaches from Jeremiah 33:14-16 (NLT). Have you ever been so shocked and appalled by a question someone asked you that you were rendered speechless? It happened to Allison when I proposed to her on Pismo Beach almost twenty years ago (just kidding--I think her speechlessness was joy). Nevertheless, something like that happens in the story from Luke that we are reliving this Sunday morning in the wrap-up message of our "Galilee By Storm...

Throughout our "Galilee by Storm" fall message series, Jesus has been surprising us time and again. In the story that we are reliving this week, Jesus will stay true to form. Friends, if you like high biblical drama (and high trails to hike!), this Sunday is your week. Looking forward to seeing you this Sunday morning at either 9:00 or 11:00 AM for a message called "Life Saving By Storm" from Luke...

Hillside held a special Service of Remembrance to honor those Hillsiders and loved ones who passed away since March 2020. The video recording of this service can be found here: https://youtu.be/kOCJeIruzLg

I have a happy memory of going to the Santa Cruz Cinema in June, 1993 with a bunch of friends from Camp Hammer to see Jurassic Park . We sat in the front row and screamed and shrieked and laughed throughout the movie, which I loved and still do today (though as a lawyer I found what happened to the Donald Gennaro character a little rough). The message that I'm sharing with you this Sunday as part...

Have you ever had something really scary happen to wake you up in the middle of the night? This Sunday morning in our Week 7 message from the "Galilee By Storm" series, I'm sharing just such a story. This amazing midnight happening also happens to be the perfect illustration of one of the big ideas of Jesus' startling teaching in Luke 6:27-36. Really hoping to see you in person for worship this Su...

Hillside! We are continuing our series Galilee by Storm. This week, we’re going to see Jesus rumble with the religious leaders as he goes up against one of the most sacred Jewish laws: the Sabbath. We’re exploring two accounts of two different Sabbaths and will discover who Jesus believed He was and what He believed God was like. These stories are going to surprise, challenge and inspire us. Join...

This Sunday we reach Week 5 of our Fall Message Series "Galilee By Storm" from Luke chapters 4-9. This week we relive the story of Jesus and his disciples at Levi's wild party full of wild people (as well as some not-so-wild ones). At a moment of high drama, Jesus makes a claim so stunning that it might have made his listeners drop their wine glasses. What did he mean by his reference to "the brid...

This Sunday we reach Week 4 of our Fall Message Series from Luke chapters 4-9 called "Galilee By Storm." In this week's story we have the opportunity both to experience grace and to learn with what that gift comes bundled. If God does what I hope he will do through this message and communion service, we will all leave with a new vision of who God is and who God is for us. Looking forward to seeing...

As C.S. Lewis famously claimed, “God designed the human machine to run on himself.” Humans, just as famously, have chosen the fuel of a darker rule instead--with disastrous results. This week we see Jesus declare war on all that discourages, diminishes, and destroys human flourishing, but not with the weapons we’d expect. I, Janet Hanson, am excited to share with you from these verses the surprisi...

This morning we arrive at Week 2 of our fall message series, "Galilee By Storm." The story we have to immerse ourselves in, Jesus' return to his hometown, is dramatic and challenging, but in a surprising way. I (Pastor Dan) am excited about what God has given me to share in this message called "Synagogue By Storm." Looking forward to worshipping with you either in-person or online this Sunday morn...

The headlines have been full of stories lately of catastrophic storms. But back in the first century a man like no other "stormed" through his home region leaving a "wake" of wisdom, welcome and healing that still shapes the world. Starting this Sunday morning we get to "marvel" at the "amazing," "astonishing," Jesus of Nazareth whose friendship we savor and whose way we are privileged to imitate....

The apostle Paul begins Colossians 3 by reminding us of who we are in Christ - new women and men who have put off our old selves and are now living into our true identities as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved.  In Colossians 3:15-17, we move from looking at the qualities of God’s people to looking at the qualities of God’s community.
