Grace Christian Church

In our exploration of discipleship, we're confronted with a challenging truth: the world is often hostile to our faith. Drawing from Luke 22, we see Jesus preparing His disciples for this reality. The key lesson? We must be 'wise as serpents and innocent as doves' (Matthew 10:16). This means being acutely aware of Satan's deceptive tactics while maintaining our integrity and simplicity in Christ....

In this powerful exploration of worship, we're reminded that it's not just a Sunday activity, but a lifestyle. Jesus himself set the example, making it his custom to be in the synagogue regularly. This challenges us to reflect on our own habits and priorities. Are we, like Jesus, disciplining ourselves to gather with fellow believers? The message emphasizes that while we shouldn't be legalistic, n...

In our exploration of spiritual disciplines, we encounter the powerful practice of confession. Drawing from 1 John 1:5-9, we're reminded that God is light, and to walk closely with Him, we must step out of darkness. Confession isn't about broadcasting our faults on social media or making vague apologies; it's about specifically naming our sins to God and trusted individuals. This act of vulnerabil...

This week we're challenged to rethink our approach to generosity, particularly with our finances. The central theme revolves around understanding money as a tool - not just for our own needs, but for serving others and worshipping God. We're reminded of Jesus' parable in Luke 16 about the dishonest manager, which surprisingly teaches us to use our 'worldly wealth' to make eternal friends. This isn...

This morning we are honored to have Josh Smith from College Ministries of VA. Josh looks at faith and authority from Mark 9:14-29, where Jesus heals a boy possessed by an evil spirit. This passage challenges us to examine our own beliefs and the source of our spiritual power. We're reminded that true faith isn't about our abilities, but about connecting with and relying on Jesus. The disciples' fa...

In our exploration of spiritual disciplines, we've uncovered a powerful tool for transformation - fasting. This practice goes beyond mere abstinence; it's about creating space in our lives to seek God more intentionally. We've seen examples from the Old Testament where fasting was used to seek guidance, forgiveness, and courage. But perhaps most striking is Jesus' own 40-day fast, reminding us tha...

In exploring the parable of the Prodigal Son from Luke 15, we're invited to reflect on God's immeasurable love and the true value He places on each of us. This familiar story takes on new depth as we consider not just the wayward son, but also the older brother's perspective. Both sons, in different ways, miss the heart of their father - a poignant reminder of how we often fail to grasp God's unco...

In our exploration of the spiritual discipline of Sabbath, we uncover a profound invitation to rest in God's presence. Through Jesus' interactions in Luke 14 and 13, we see how the true essence of Sabbath transcends rigid traditions. It's not about following a set of rules, but about entering into God's rest and worship. The Sabbath was made for us, not us for the Sabbath. This perspective shift c...

This week, Tim Cole from Waypoint Church Partners challenges us to confront our tendency to judge others based on appearances. The book of James, particularly chapter 2, serves as our guide, reminding us that showing favoritism is not only wrong but also contradicts the very essence of Christ's teachings. We're encouraged to 'stop it' - to consciously resist the urge to discriminate. The story of...

In our journey of faith, we often approach prayer with our own agendas and desires. However, this limits the power of prayer and gives a false sense of connection to God. Today we talk about the heart and core of prayer. That is aligning our hearts with God's heart. Drawing from the Lord's Prayer in Luke 11, we're reminded that prayer is not about manipulating God to do our will, but about transfo...

This week we're invited to explore the vital discipline of engaging with Scripture. The story of Mary and Martha from Luke 10:38-42 serves as a compelling reminder of the importance of prioritizing our time with God's Word. Just as Mary chose to sit at Jesus' feet, we too are called to make intentional choices in our spiritual lives. The sermon presents four practical ways to engage with Scripture...

Today we look at the spiritual discipline of witness, we're challenged to rethink our understanding of sharing our faith. The core message revolves around Luke 9:2, where Jesus sends out his disciples to 'proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal.' This isn't just about evangelism; it's about our own spiritual growth. By regularly sharing what God has done in our lives, we're not only potentially im...

In our journey of faith, we often overlook the profound gift of solitude. This message invites us to explore solitude as a powerful spiritual discipline, one that Jesus himself practiced regularly. Through the lens of Luke's Gospel, we see how Christ often withdrew to lonely places to pray, setting an example for us to follow. Solitude isn't just about being alone; it's about intentionally creatin...

In our journey of discipleship, we're called to a profound transformation: becoming like Jesus. This isn't just about superficial changes, but a deep re-formation of who we are. The challenge lies in the fact that we're already formed individuals, shaped by what we consume, our experiences and the world around us. To truly become like Christ, we must be willing to give up parts of ourselves - even...

In our exploration of church membership, we're challenged to reconsider what it truly means to be part of the body of Christ. Unlike worldly memberships based on benefits, biblical church membership is rooted in expectations and responsibilities. The Apostle Paul's teachings, particularly in 1 Corinthians 12, paint a vivid picture of the church as a unified body with diverse parts, each playing a...

Today we delve into the Christmas story from Luke 2, uncovering the authentic love displayed by both God and His people. We see examples of man's love for God through Mary, Joseph, Simeon, and Anna - each demonstrating devotion despite challenging circumstances. However, the heart of the message reminds us that Scripture ultimately reveals God's love for man. His pursuit of humanity, from Abraham...

Today we're holding up a mirror to our busy lives. The story of the wise men from Matthew 2 serves as a profound example of seeking Jesus with purpose. Like these men who journeyed from the east - symbolically far from God - we too are called to intentionally seek Christ during this season. Their journey wasn't just about finding Jesus, but about worshipping Him and offering gifts. This challenges...

This week we're challenged to examine our response to God's unexpected calls. The sermon looks into Luke 1, contrasting Zechariah's doubt with Mary's trust when faced with angelic announcements. We're reminded that having questions isn't wrong, but our heart's posture matters. Are we approaching God's directives with skepticism like Zechariah, or with humble curiosity like Mary? This message encou...

In this powerful exploration of faith and fear, we dive deep into Luke chapter 8, where Jesus calms the storm and casts out demons. These stories remind us that life's challenges can be overwhelming, leaving us feeling afraid and uncertain. But the central message is clear: Jesus has authority over all things, both natural and supernatural. When we're in the midst of our own storms - whether they'...

This message centers on Luke 5, where Jesus calls his first disciples. We're reminded that just as Jesus sought out Peter, He actively pursues each of us. The miraculous catch of fish isn't just about an impressive display of power, but about Jesus revealing Himself in ways we might often overlook. How often do we miss the everyday miracles in our lives, longing for grand gestures instead? This st...

Today we're reminded of our tendency to place our hopes in worldly things, believing they'll solve all our problems. The story of Jesus reading from Isaiah in the synagogue (Luke 4:16-21) serves as a foundation for understanding Christ's true mission. He came to bring good news to the poor, release captives, give sight to the blind, and free the oppressed - both physically and spiritually. This pa...
