Fandom on the Rocks

This week on Teen Wolf , Dr. Deaton is in fact the world's only veterinarian, Derek and Chris accidentally become besties, and everyone else is having an absolutely terrible time. In 3×19, "Letharia Vulpina," Stiles is missing (again) and we see some wonderful familiar faces. Fall sports are back at Beacon Hills and everyone's running cross country. Uncle Peter is back and he hit...

"Fandom is a participatory event. In one way or the other." Welcome back to Fandom on the Rocks, where there’s never a plan — only chaos, retcons, and a lot of feelings about 9-1-1. In this 9-1-1 bonus episode, we dive headfirst into Season 9, the emotional hangover of losing Bobby Nash, and yeah, that was a whale swallowing a billionaire kayaker. From the four-part fever dream of a seas...

Well. Stiles is having quite the bad day, isn't he? In 3×18, "Riddled," Stiles goes missing and everyone searches for him. Scott, Isaac, Lydia, and Aiden all end up in his bedroom, investigating the murder board. The Sheriff bundles Scott and Isaac off to the station while Lydia insists on staying—the red strings have something to tell her. The APB turns up Stiles' jeep at the ho...

You know what Teen Wolf needs more of? Lore. In 3×17, "Silverfinger," we flash back in time to Chris Argent's first real gun deal, learning he's had more experience with the Oni than anyone expected. The Argent side of the McCall pack look to find an old contact named Katashi, who may have Very Important Lore And Information. In return, Chris plans to give him an old French rifle...

The end of an era—or at least it should have been. In Glee 5×13, “New Directions,” the Glee Club is officially over, Sue has won, and McKinley’s choir room gets packed up for good this time. But instead of a graceful farewell to the kids we know and love, we get an episode written like a series finale… even though the show still had another season and a half to go. Oh, Glee . Join us (and we mean...

Mostly naked Halloween parties? Must be Beacon Hills. In 3×16, “Illuminated,” the power’s out, but the drama is very much on. Special Agent Douchebag (McCall) drags our heroes in for way too many questions, Stiles finds a mysterious extra key, and Kira is running an evidence-lockup heist for her phone. Across town, Isaac gets attacked by scary shadow monsters, Chris Argent stays frustratingly tigh...

Don't get zapped! In 3×15, "Galvanize , " we meet child murderer William Barrow and, somehow, that's not the most disturbing thing about him. After escaping hospital custody via belly-full-of-flies (don't ask), he ends up on a greatest-hits-tour of Beacon Hills, ending up—where else?—but Beacon Hills High School. Elsewhere, Scott and Stiles decide to make Coach's life a l...

So, wait—this isn't the National Geographic channel? In 3×14, "More Bad Than Good ," the gang goes coyote hunting! Well, more accurately, they go coyote tracking , before Malia's father accidentally traps a kid (or his coyote daughter) in a bear trap. (Spoiler alert: someone gets caught in a bear trap.) Allison and Stiles are still very much suffering from the great heart darknes...

So, who's ready to talk about The Darkness Around Our Hearts? What—you neither? In 3×13 “Anchors,” Stiles is having dreams about Lydia and nightmares about doors, only to wake up and find he can't exactly read. Scott's attempting to transform at random, his shadow giving away his superpower, eyes flashing red, and he's feeling completely out of control. (That is, except with the ca...

What happens to werewolves on the lunar eclipse? I hope it makes us stronger. In 3×12, "Lunar Eclipse," Scott, Stiles, and Allison finally discover the location of the Nemeton, which definitely doesn't want to be found. Stiles and Allison, along with Isaac, find and rescue the parents in the Nemeton's root cellar, making the surrogate sacrifice worth it. Jennifer fights off again...

In 3×11, "Alpha Pact," our characters must make some incredibly difficult choices to secure the safety of the ones they love. Scott is working with Deucalion to find his mother who has been kidnapped by Jennifer as a Guardian sacrifice, officially siding with the villain. Chris gives himself over to the Darach as the third and final Guardian sacrifice (in front of Allison and Isaac, no l...

Welcome back, Gleeks. You've made it to Part 2 of our look back at the 5x12, "100" - the 100th episode of Glee . We pick up right where we left off — the New Directions are still on life support, the Diva-Off is allegedly still a thing, and Rachel is still allergic to lasting character development. 💥 Part 2 Plot? Yeah, sure: Mercedes finally tells Rachel that she’s the voice in her...

Welcome back to Beacon Hills Memorial Hospital, where nothing good ever happens—ever. In 3×10, "The Overlooked," the gang is trapped in the hospital between a rock and a hard place. Cora is very sick and Derek and Peter need Jennifer's help to cure her. But Jennifer won't help unless the werewolves protect her from the Alphas, who have finally come calling. We finally learn about...

Buckle up, Gleeks—it’s the 100th episode, which means Glee is throwing everything at the wall to see what sings. Sticks! To see what sticks. This is a no-pun zone (allegedly). We’ve got a chaotic double-feature recap for you because everyone showed up for this one and we talked too long, so you’re getting Part 1 and Part 2. The algorithm says no one wants 2.5-hour episodes 🤷‍♀️. In Part 1 of this...

You didn't think werewolves were still the only supernatural creatures in Beacon Hills, did you? In 3×09, "The Girl Who Knew Too Much," Allison and Isaac suspect Chris of committing the human sacrifices after finding an incredibly detailed map in his office. Scott and Stiles decide Lydia's newly hidden talent of… hearing things she doesn't understand and stumbling across dead bodies… will be helpf...

In the time-honored tradition of not-telling-enough-story-per-season, it's time for a flashback episode! In 3×08, "Visionary," we get the origin stories of both Derek Hale and Alpha Deucalion from two of the series' most unreliable narrators—Peter Hale and Gerard Argent (respectively). In this episode, we learn all about Deucalion's past with the Hale Alpha, Derek and Cora&#3...

We're moving on to Healers this week on Pack Dynamics - here's hoping they can get some help in time! In 3×07, "Currents," the Alpha Pack continues to target Derek, but his betas have a plan. Not that we don't support flooding the loft and running electrical currents through it, but it seems like a risky plan to us. Especially because Derek lives so high up in the building. B...

Get ready for one of the best episodes Teen Wolf has ever done. (No, really. Plus some major content warnings for suicide, self-harm, drowning, body horror, murder, and more.) In 3×06, "Motel California," the team, plus the girls trailing in the car behind them, get caught in a massive traffic jam, causing them to hole up in a roadside motel for the night. However, due to spooky and horr...

Listen, we’ve seen 9-1-1 make some wild choices before—but this season finale? Nah. In this week's chaotic, heartfelt, and occasionally unhinged 9-1-1 Bonus Episode, subtitled "Bobby Deserved Better and So Did We," we're joined by special guest Sofia (@sadgayeddie) to unpack the emotional aftermath of the 9-1-1 season 8 finale. Spoiler alert: we are not okay. From Bobby’s sudden...

Two of our least favorite things — long bus rides and whatever blue filter editors add in post — combine in an episode that isn't nearly as bad as it sounds. In 3×05, "Frayed," all of our favorite werewolves are having a horrible time on their long bus ride to a cross country meet, given their super-secret-stealthy fight with the alphas the night before. Isaac and Boyd are starting f...

A new semester means a whole new boatload of trauma for our intrepid pack of werewolves (and friends!). In 3×04, "Unleashed," we pick back up with the students who are finally coming back from their Summer of Hell (Boyd and Isaac), get to know our new nemeses from Hell (Ethan and Aiden), and… well, start running cross country to keep sharp for the lacrosse season (Scott). Deucalion tries to convin...

Gotta catch 'em all, Pokem— oh, no, wait. Wrong show. Oops! In 3×03, "Fireflies," we follow Scott and Derek, who in turn are following Boyd and new character Cora, trying to catch these moon-crazed werewolves from causing death and destruction. Lydia, in search of ibuprofen, accidentally stumbles upon a dead body. (Hate to tell you, girliepop, this is a skill you'll get much bett...

It's a girl's girl's girl's world here today on Pack Dynamics. In 3×02, "Chaos Rising," our intrepid pack looks to attend to two major problems. First, the matching bruises on Lydia and Allison's wrists might lead to something, but only if they figure out the pattern. Second, new character Heather is looking to lose her virginity at her Sweet Seventeen and picks our g...

We're mad, you're mad, we're all mad at Tim Minear. This week's 9-1-1 Mini Series episode is all about the devastating fallout from the 9-1-1 Contagion two-parter of 8x14 "Sick Day" and 8x15 "Lab Rats." Warning: This episode is RIFE with spoilers for basically the entirety of 9-1-1 through 8x15. And includes discussions of suicide that some listeners may find se...

Welcome back, Pack! This is the Season 3 premiere of Pack Dynamics: A Teen Wolf Podcast. It's a few months after the events of Season 2, and a pack of Alphas (an Alpha pack?! they can do that?) have arrived to wreak to complete havoc on Scott McCall's life. Because he cannot catch a single break (he's still bummed over his break-up with Allison). There are Werewolf Twins now. Who have...
