EatScripture - Ep 184 - Psalms - Psalm 138 16.08.2022 31:32
Three times in this psalm, the author says to give thanks to Yahweh. He praises the Lord for all He has done to through His steadfast love and faithfulness to answer the psalmist when he called. Even kings will give thanks to the Lord when they hear of the Lord's faithfulness. Is the psalmist thinking a little highly of himself, or is there One for whom the Lord worked in faithful steadfastness th...
EatScripture - Ep 183 - Psalms - Psalm 136 13.08.2022 32:09
"His steadfast love endures forever" is something that we hear a lot of as we go through this 26 line Psalm. Why is that? Is there more to the Psalm than a simple re-iteration of good things that God has done?

EatScripture - Ep 182 - Psalms - Psalm 130 09.08.2022 30:34
I know that the Bible says to "wait on the Lord," but isn't there something I can DO? God longs to forgive His people, and that means YOU! His forgiveness is greater than you can imagine and it is coming as sure as the sunrise tomorrow!

EatScripture - Ep 181 - Psalms - Psalm 127 06.08.2022 28:40
At first read, this Psalm seems like it might have originally been two different subjects combined to make one Psalm. But on further investigation it is much more likely that the Psalmist knew exactly what he was doing in writing this beautiful piece about one "house" and Who it is really all about.

You are an unshakable mountain protected by a ring of surrounding mountains. Sounds quite impressive. How do we live up to such lofty faith?

EatScripture - Ep 179 (w/o background music) - Mark 16:8 - A Crazy Ending! 30.07.2022 38:24
Why does Mark's Gospel end without a single post-resurrection appearance of Jesus? Why does he end with the ladies who are at the tomb and hear from the angel about Jesus saying nothing about him? Why would Mark end a gospel this way when we know, as did his first readers, that Jesus has been raised from the dead? All the clues to interpret this remarkable literary device are given to us.

What is it that keeps threatening us on a daily basis - giant beasts? flood waters? snares/traps? The psalmist knew what it meant to walk through this hazardous life with God at his side. We can have the same trust in YHWH's name, which is our help.

EatScripture - Ep 177 (w/o background music) - Psalms - Psalm 123 23.07.2022 31:21
In Psalm 123 we have another chance to "lift up our eyes." This time we do it as those who know what it means to serve a great Master. In learning to seek His mercy, we can find a way past the contempt that our hearts long to hold on to against the world.

EatScripture - Ep 176 - Psalms - Psalm 121 19.07.2022 30:01
A Song of Ascents. Which of the "gods" that surround me and offer me happiness, peace, pleasure, etc. shall I look to? The author of this Psalm of Ascents says YHWH is our only choice because He is the creator of heavens and earth and will totally keep us safe & guarded. While the other "gods" need sleep and have limits, YHWH does not! He can be trusted forever.

EatScripture - Ep 175 - Psalms - Psalm 119. Pt 3 16.07.2022 30:05
The conclusion of our talk on Psalm 119. Again, we focus on the theme of persecution/affliction, also we get into the idea of new life that comes from God's Word and the use of the words "Love" and "Steadfast Love" throughout this Psalm.

Continuing our discussion on Psalm 119, we focus on what it means for God to teach those who come to Him in His Word. Sod is a wonderful part of a deep walk in God's Word. By the end, we are also touching on the idea of persecution as it is presented as part of the Psalmist's current experience.

This is the first of a multipart series on the longest psalm/chapter in the Bible. It is no coincidence that the longest chapter in God's Word is all about the greatness of God's Word! Even the introductory stuff is fascinating. :)

A powerful and conquering Messiah is coming to rule Israel. Not only will he be a king, but also a priest! Who is Melchizedek and how does he fit into this picture? How does Jesus use this Psalm? Why is this the most quoted OT passage in the NT?
