Did you know that makeup and carnivals are actually really scary? We are dreadfully aware of this fact, and in order to make sense of the Swedish metal band Avatar, we had to call Geoff out of retirement to explain it. Had Avatar always planned on being a band strong on image, and small on substance? Or did they actually start out as one of Sweden’s premier melodic death metal bands? Find out on t...

In the early 2000s, and in the wake of Living Sacrifice breaking up, a number of emerging Christian metal bands competed to take the same mantle. The Showdown was one of these bands that started with an early fire, yet found their voice in a collection of searing riffs and southern tinged melodies. Did they succeed? Find out on this episode of Discography Discussion! #discussmetal #TheShowdown Joi...

Nu-Metal May rolls on with P.O.D. on this episode of Discography Discussion. P.O.D. was the band in the late 90’s that made “Christian rock” acceptable for the masses. It’s hard to talk about a band that objectively had a major influence in the post 9/11 music scene. We decided to call in Bryan Patton of the “As the Story Grows” podcast to help us shine some light on these innovators. Also, Bryan...

Have you ever listened to a band you grew up with and wondered “why isn’t this band more popular?” That is the question that plagued Dan and Joe throughout Spineshank’s discography. They had all the elements of a hit band, but for some reason were overshadowed by their peers. If you are looking for a good nu-metal experience, you really can’t go wrong with Spineshank…..mostly. #discussmetal #Spine...

When a band loses their most iconic member it can be devastating. It can be nearly impossible to come back in the eyes of fans. No matter what you do, it doesn't “sound the same”. Or did they drown in a pool of mediocrity? #discussmetal #NuMetalMay #DrowningPool Jon Beatty an...

Some bands spend most of their career trying to carve out their fanbase by steadily building upon what made them a big hit in the first place. What do you do with a band like Becoming the Archetype? This week, we go down to Brazil to talk about “Krig,” one of Dan’s favorite death metal bands. Expect lots of blast beats, technical wankery, and impossibly deep vocals as we try to figure out if death metal can be progressive. Special thanks to Krig for allowing us to use one of their songs as our theme music! Check it out! #discussmetal #Krig "Krig" on Bandcamp -  https://krigdeathmetal.bandcamp...

As we analyze “At The Gates” from their inception we find a totally different band in the beginning, and try to decide if they are in fact Kings of Gothenburg or just a happy accident.
