A View from the Bunker

THE PSALMS are often polemics directed at the gods of the pagan nations around Israel. Case in point is the subject of this month’s Iron and Myth roundtable, Psalm 29. Dr. Judd Burton ( www. BurtonBeyond.net ), author of Interview With the Giant , Brian Godawa ( www. Godawa.com ), best-selling author of the new novel Cruel Logic , and Doug Van Dorn ( www.douglasvandorn.com ), author of Giants: Son...

MYSTERY BABYLON of the end times is the return of Babel. This shouldn’t surprise us—the Hebrew words bab el (from Akkadian bab ilu , meaning “gate of gods”), translated Babylon, are the same words rendered “Babel” in Genesis 11. Tyler Gilreath , author of the new book Gate of the Gods , explains why the connections between Babel and Babylon are much deeper than just linguistics. Here's the link to...

SOME OF THE MOST epic stories from the ancient world deal with the wars of the gods. It’s not a coincidence that one of the most commonly used titles for God in the Bible is “Lord of hosts,” which literally means “Yahweh of armies.” Doug Van Dorn ( www.douglasvandorn.com ), author of Giants: Sons of the Gods , Dr. Judd Burton ( www. BurtonBeyond.net ), author of Interview With the Giant , and Bria...

KING NEBUCHADNEZZAR saw a vision that disturbed him so much that he ordered his sorcerers, enchanters, and magicians to tell him what he’d dreamed and its interpretation—on pain of death. Obviously, the Chaldeans of Nebuchadnezzar’s court couldn’t comply with the king’s demand. They were on the verge of being killed when one remembered the Judean named Daniel. Through a revelation of God, Daniel w...

ONE OF the most enigmatic characters in the Bible is a man who literally sold his birthright for a bowl of beans. We refer, of course, to Jacob’s brother Esau, about whom the Bible doesn’t say much else except that he was the progenitor of Edom, southwest of the Dead Sea, a nation that would be a thorn in the side of Israel and Judah for about a thousand years. Justin Brown , host of Prometheus Le...

HOW DO YOU replace one of a kind? There was only one Tom Horn. He leaves a legacy, an unparalleled body of work that has opened the eyes of Christians around the world to the supernatural war in which we all play a part. Joe Ardis Horn has taken over as CEO of SkyWatch TV, a role he never imagined for himself when Tom first began to outline his vision for a new kind of Christian television program...

The Middle East is in turmoil, but trying to understand the conflict in terms of simple geopolitics doesn’t provide good answers. Iran is using proxies in Gaza, Lebanon, and Yemen to attack Israel and pressure the West. But Iran is a Shia nation while its most violent proxy, Hamas, is an arm of the Muslim Brotherhood, a Sunni group that wants to restore the caliphate—which was based in Turkey. Dr....

A SIGNIFICANT PORTION of liberal America apparently feels the only way to “save our democracy” is by disenfranchising tens of millions of voters. There are movements to keep Donald Trump off the ballot in some 30 states, and congressional Democrats want to disqualify more than 125 Republican colleagues from running for reelection by claiming that the 14th Amendment to the Constitution bars anyone...

ARE WE GUILTY of “majoring in the minors” by talking about the weird parts of the Bible? Studying topics like giants, gods, and dragons in the Bible is important. But does focusing on these subjects detracts from the message of love, grace, and salvation in Jesus Christ? Brian Godawa ( www. Godawa.com ), best-selling author of the new novel Cruel Logic , Doug Van Dorn ( www.douglasvandorn.com ), a...

IT’S DEFINITELY one of the strangest stories of 2023: Villagers in a remote region of the Amazon rainforest in Peru have been defending themselves against attackers called pelecaras , which translates into English as “face-peelers.” Timothy Alberino ( TimothyAlberino.com ) , who lived in that region for a time as a younger man, returned recently to investigate the accounts of seven-foot-tall levit...

Author Nick Goss joins us to discuss his new book Unplugging Babel: A Manifesto Against AI, Smartphones, and Social Media . Nick explains why he says smartphone technology and social media have enslaved Christians, tethering us to participation in the coming 'Beast Bystem' of the Antichrist. Subsc...

ONE OF THE MOST notorious characters in the Bible, and all of history, is a man about which we know almost nothing. Nimrod is blamed for the Tower of Babel and the occult wickedness of Babylon. However, a close reading of the Bible and the history of the ancient Near East doesn’t specifically connect him with either. Some identify Nimrod as the Sumerian king Enmerkar, some as Sargon the Great of A...

WHAT WE CALL “prepping” our grandparents called “life.” We’ve lost those skills—and the knowledge that your neighbors had your back when things got tough. Wyatt Fernow , one of the organizers of the annual Pitchfork and Hoe Gathering in Valley City, North Dakota ( facebook.com/pitchforknhoe ), sat down with me at this year’s event to explain why his father, Rod, came up with the idea for this get-...

NIMROD HAD nothing to do with Babel or Babylon—and they had nothing to do with one another. This is probably not what you’ve heard about the first great (human) rebel in the Bible, but if this week’s guest is correct, it’s historically accurate. Dr. Douglas Petrovich , author of the new book Nimrod the Empire Builder: Architect of Shock and Awe , explains how identifying Nimrod as the first empire...
