Taiiku Podcast

I've been following Chelsea for a couple years now; in depth since their most recent Champions League win. And I have no idea what's happening? Like does this happen with all football teams? Not the "owned by a Russian oligarch" thing, but the "big amounts of turnover leading to ???" thing. Can't wait for the all 11 with just forwards . Also tweetbot broke again because twitter sucks like immediat...

These are good to watch, on Damar Hamlin, who I mentioned in the panpanya episode's opening notes: (debatable) with Pablo Torre and Domonique Foxworth , Mina Kimes Show featuring Lenny with Domonique Foxworth , Garrett Bush on Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show . This episode, we're talking about hara's Embrace Your Size: My Own Body Positivity published by Yen Press and Yuki Suenaga (story) and Takam...

Sports takes on a lot less meaning when stuff like what happened to Damar Hamlin happens. How many times has something similar happened on high school fields? D-II schools? And no one ever heard about it. Prayers to Damar Hamlin; hoping for the best. This episode, Helen and Apryll are not with me, but Ink and Patz are and they are talking about two panpanya manga from Denpa, An Invitation from a C...

The podcast is here! If you want to check out the reveal , click the link and you'll just go there and see it. Thanks to Evan of The Anigamers and AlexanderCase for being my and Pat's Santa, respectively. ----- A lot of stuff happened, but it all means that this won't come out on time. I at least like to have a placeholder so AGC didn't have to update the post after I finally finished it though, s...

This episode, we're just counting down our three favorite manga that we read in 2022. Like previous years, it's just manga that we read; not necessarily manga that came out in 2022. No credits from the manga this time around because we talked about nine different manga, and that's just a lot. Apologies for my own laziness. The song you heard in this episode was " Best of You " by the Foo Fighters....

The World Cup is going on! Amongst the human atrocities and corruption that led us all to this point, I have been greatly enjoying the tournament following it for the second time ever (at least the men's iteration). Fortunately, Korea beat Portugal to get into the knockout round. Unfortunately, they were immediately destroyed by Brazil. But the future looks bright for Korea. Kim Moonhwan did well...

It's the 100th episode of the podcast! As I say on the recording itself, this isn't the actual 100th episode; we've had a few above 100 since I've done quite a few 0.5 episodes (like the top movies podcasts) that aren't in the mainline of episodes. But at least the episodes where we talk about a sports anime or manga, it's 100 episodes. I reached this milestone a bit earlier on Manga In Your Ears,...

All I want this MLB postseason is for the Guardians to lose, the Astros to lose, and the baseball team in Atlanta to lose. I have separate rooting interests in the positive direction (lifelong Mariners fan here), but mostly I'm rooting for the cheaters, the racists, and the team that bullied the White Sox all season to lose. This episode, our older series is Amesuke Ano's The Muscle Girl Next Door...

The White Sox are eliminated from playoffs, but the Mariners are in, so this is a Mariners fan podcast now. Anyway. This episode, Chris ( @gokuffy ), Chris ( @antoniuspius ), and I close out the David Lynch series entirely and talk about David Lynch: The Art Life. Next, Ink ( @ink_just_ink ), Basil ( @itsbasiltime ), and I talk about Futsal Boys!!!!! Finally, Ink and I talk about Fanfare of Adoles...

The White Sox went into last week needing a sweep of the Cleveland Guardians to win the season series and keep their playoff hopes realistic. They were swept, and then lost two more against the Tigers. Any playoff hopes are basically gone now. This is the team I like. This episode, we're talking about Yuki Urushibara's When a Cat Faces West published by Kodansha as our older series. And Yuu Tanaka...

I forgot to write this whole intro thing I always do and now the podcast is edited and ready. Anyway, I'm surprised Chelsea fired Thomas Tuchel and I can't imagine what the guy was like behind the scenes with his relationship to the owners to possibly prompt this. Anyway. Here's another long episode! First, Chris ( @gokuffy ), Chris ( @antoniuspius ), and I finish up David Lynch's filmography and...

It's hot here in southern California. So everyone stay safe, stay hydrated, wear a mask, and get that new shot when you can. This episode, we're talking about Syundei's Go for It Again, Nakamura! published by Seven Seas and ONE (story) and Yusuke Murata's (art) One-Punch Man published by Viz. Go for It Again, Nakamura! credits: Translation: Amber Tamosaitis Lettering: Kaitlyn Wiley Cover design: K...

Following up on the previous post here on this website, but for Manga In Your Ears, I went to an NWSL game! Angel City FC v Chicago Red Stars. The Red Stars (my first team, but truth be told, I would support any NWSL team) seemed passive in attack; maybe as a result of no Mal Pugh. And Angel City came out with the 1-0 victory. Great game, always a great experience, and most importantly easy trip t...

There are now two NWSL teams withing reasonable distance of me, and I've shamefully seen neither of them just yet. Hoping to correct that next month. Also I wish the sponsor on the Angel City shirts was not DoorDash because fuck those companies. This episode, we're talking about Ken Koyama's Little Miss P published by Yen Press and Tsubasa Yamaguchi's Blue Period published by Kodansha. Little Miss...

This episode, we're talking about Etsuko's Joy published by Kodansha and Koji Miura's Blue Box published by Viz in Shonen Jump. Joy credits: Translation: A.G. Lettering: Nicole Roderick Editing: Sarah Tilson Blue Box credits: Translation: Christine Dashiell Lettering: Mark McMurray As always, you can find me on Twitter @ImpassionateK , and my co-hosts Helen ( @WanderinDreamr ) and Apryll ( @manjio...

I went to two White Sox games here while they were in Anaheim. They only won half the games I went to, but on the other hand, Shohei Ohtani pitched well and that was very exciting on the other end. They're in San Francisco now, and I sort of regret not going to one of those games, but alas. Anyway. This episode, Chris ( @gokuffy ), Chris ( @antoniuspius ), and I talk about David Lynch's most recen...

I am begging the White Sox to win a normal baseball game. I am hoping Lucas Giolito will pitch better for the rest of the season. What is happening to this cursed team. This episode, we're (accidentally) revisiting Nagata Kabi's My Solo Exchange Diary (listen to our first episode here ) published by Seven Seas. Then we're talking about Miman's Yuri Is My Job! published by Kodansha. Support the wor...

Next year is Chelsea's year I feel. Just need a dependable goal scorer and two or three new defenders. Down with City. Anyway. This episode, Corey ( @Modandrocker ) and Bamboo ( @ANN_Bamboo ) rejoin me to talk about some more Marvel Cinematic Universe with MCU TV from WandaVision to Moon Knight. Then we talk about Spider-Man: No Way Home. Listen Show notes: 0:45 - We talk about some MCU TV 22:22 -...

You know, I am beginning to think that hiring Tony La Russa, septuagenarian hall of fame manager well past any point of relevancy, was a poor idea. Anyway. Chris ( @gokuffy ), Chris ( @antoniuspius ), and I continue our David Lynch series with the other movie that we've all seen, Mulholland Dr. Then Ink ( @ink_just_ink ) joins me to talk about Your Lie in April. Listen Show notes: 0:34 - Chris, Ch...

The White Sox do not seem to be a very good offensive baseball team, and it is very sad for me personally. Worst in baseball (as of Sunday evening when the Sox Machine podcast where I heard it was recorded) with a man on third and zero or one outs. This episode, we're talking about Mimu Oyamada's BL Fans LOVE My Brother?! published by Tokyopop. Then we talk about Takako Shimura's Even Though We're...

I've decided I'm a Real Madrid fan now, mostly arbitrarily behind them beating City in the semifinals of the Champions League. But also Benzema is very fun to watch, and Rudiger, a Chelsea favorite, is about to go there. So here I am. This episode, we're talking about Kuniichi Ashiya's What the Font?! – A Manga Guide to Western Typeface published by Seven Seas. Then Jougi Shiraishi (story), Itsuki...

As I'm writing this, the White Sox just stopped an eight game slide (their first since 2018) with a win against the Royals, and thanks to a three-run home run by Andrew Vaughn. All I ask is that the White Sox score more runs, and prevent more runs, leading to more wins. Is that so much to ask? Anyway. This time, Chris ( @gokuffy ), Chris ( @antoniuspius ), and I continue our journey through David...

This episode, we're talking about two Naoki Urasawa manga. Our older series is Sneeze, and our newer series is Asadora, both published by Viz. Sneeze credits: Translation: John Werry Touch-up Art and Lettering: Steve Dutro Cover and Interior Design: Yukiko Whitley Editor: Annette Roman Asadora credits: Translation: John Werry Touch-up Art and Lettering: Steve Dutro Design: Jimmy Presler Editor: Ka...

Been watching a lot of mechanical keyboard related things, and bought one for my work setup (currently, I'm moving my existing mechanical keyboard, which is just some Razer one I bought, back and forth). So if you also like them, you know, teach me everything. Anyway. This time, Chris ( @gokuffy ), Chris ( @antoniuspius ), and I continue through David Lynch's filmography with Lost Highway. Then In...

I just saw USMNT qualified for the World Cup (which exactly dates when I edited and wrote this), and if I were USWNT I would QRT that with something snide about how they're always there, and the men are just catching up. This episode, I have two special guests, Chris and Ink, with me to talk about three of Denpa's Shuzo Oshimi manga: Miss Kusakabe, Waltz, and Shino Can't Say Her Name. Grab Denpa's...
