Work On Your Attitude #RTTBROS #Nightlight Proverbs 23:7 "For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he." I was thinking a lot about work lately, not just in ministry, but just the way we go about our day. You know, life throws these unpredictable traffic jams at us. One of those huge graders goes to work on a highway repair job. When the machine is operating on a busy road, traffic is halte...

Walk And Talk: The Journey #RTTBROS #NIGHTLIGHT

Knowing Where We Are Going There is a profound peace that comes from having a settled heart. This peace was beautifully illustrated by the legendary evangelist, Billy Graham. Many years ago, in the city of Charlotte, North Carolina, Dr. Graham was invited to be honored by his hometown. At the time, he was struggling with the effects of Parkinson's disease and was hesitant to speak, fearing he...

When Prayer Meets the Road #RTTBROS #Nightlight "And Isaac intreated the LORD for his wife, because she was barren: and the LORD was intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived." Genesis 25:21 Back in October of 2002, folks in the Washington, D.C. area were living under a cloud of fear that's hard to describe if you weren't there. For three weeks, somebody was shooting peopl...

Dealing With Anger #RTTBROS #Nightlight #BibleWisdomDaily Let me tell you something. I've been a custodian for over 20 years, and I've learned that when kids get angry, they make a mess. But let me just say, when adults get angry, we tend to make an even bigger one. I'm like Paul Harvey... 'Too soon old and too late smart.' I've spent 27 years in pastoral ministry and raisi...

How To Soar #RTTBROS #Nightlight #BibleWisdomDaily The other day I was out watering the flowers and I noticed a hummingbird feeding at some wildflowers that I had planted , And I started to think about our own efforts in faith. We build up a rhythm, don't we? A constant flapping. Dozens of beats a second, just to keep going. It's impressive, that hummingbird. It’s pure energy, and you know...

The Courage to Meet the Storm #RTTBROS #Nightlight "They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters; These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep... Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses. He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still." — Psalm 107:23-24, 28-29 I was walking the...

Unheeded Warning #Nightlight #RTTBROS The Gorse Fire and the Unheeded Warning Good morning, friends. I was remembering a story the other day about a town called Bandon, and it really got me thinking about the things we let grow in our lives. It’s a story that doesn't need a lot of fancy words to make its point. George Bennett, an Irish immigrant, brought a plant called gorse to Bandon back in...

I am continually with you #Nightlight #RTTBROS Nightlight Scripture: "Nevertheless I am continually with thee." — Psalm 73:23 (KJV) Reflection: There are nights when the soul feels adrift, clouded by confusion or weighed down by the realization of our own failings. We look at the world around us at the prosperity of the ungodly or the apparent chaos of life and we find ourselves, like As...

I’ve spent a good chunk of time in the school system, and you learn to...

The Quiet Ache  #Nightlight #RTTBROS The Quiet Ache: Finding Community in the Trinity "And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him" 1 John 4:16 You know, I’ve seen it in the pews. I’ve seen it in the back of the school bus when the kids are all crammed in, but one boy is staring out the window like...

With Grace #RTTBROS #NIGHTLIGHT #truth #Trust #Discipline

The Letter of Grace #RTTBROS #Nightlight You know, I was thinking the other day about how things used to be. Before the instant message, before the email that pops up right in your face, before the text that demands an immediate reply. I was thinking about the old-fashioned letter. If you were writing to someone you loved, maybe a cousin who moved out East, or a friend who was serving overseas, yo...

THE HAND THAT HELD THE NATION Two Hundred and Fifty Years in the Making Long before a shot was fired at Lexington, God was moving. Through revivals that awakened the colonial conscience. Through preachers who thundered that liberty is a spiritual thing. Through ordinary men and women who dared to believe that Providence had a hand in the birth of a nation. When the Revolution came, it was not rand...

The Strength That Isn't Ours #Nightlight #RTTBROS Acts 9:20-22 (KJV) And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God. But all that heard him were amazed, and said; Is not this he that destroyed them which called on this name in Jerusalem, and came hither for that intent, that he might bring them bound unto the chief priests? But Saul increased the more in streng...

The Anchor Holds #Nightlight #RTTBROS Be still, and know that I am God." (Psalm 46:10) You know, sometimes the day just piles on. You’ve got the bills, the kids are fighting over the remote, and you feel like you’re just treading water in a big, dark ocean. It’s easy to feel like you’re drifting, isn't it? Like whatever you do, it’s not enough. Scripture Bridge: But the Bible gives us a p...
