Otaku Melancholy

We're back to talk more titans! An actual attack on a titan starts in this episode and we got to see some sweet monkey butt. We briefly discuss CG  vs. traditional animation but we mostly just get more and more hyped for this new season! As always, check out new episodes every Sunday by going to our website at www.otakumelancholy.com to see all our links including our social media and join th...

Your results will vary. For sure. Anyways, snow came and it turns out you need an internet connection or something to watch anime so we didn't really have the time (or ability) to watch anime this week so we made a buyer's guide for all your weeb friends! Like... what should you get a weeb for Christmas? We answer that. Do we answer it well? Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Maybe? Is Christmas almost a year away?...

More Aggretsuko! More us talking about more Aggretsuko! Haida fans, I would sit this episode out. I don't wanna make you upset or anything but there are not many kind words about ya boi in here. At least I warned you this time. As always, check out new episodes every Sunday by going to our website at www.otakumelancholy.com to see all our links including our social media and join the Discord at ht...

Do you remember when we used to trade shows? No? Is it because we only did it once? Jog your memory then cause we're going at it again except now it's in non-denominational holiday form! That said, we're trading Saint Young Men (which has bishonen Jesus) and Itsudatte! My Santa (which is about Christmas) so maybe you shouldn't read too much into the non-denominational part. We're getting in the ho...

Special thanks for DarthEgg for recommending this show! We enjoyed it! Or did we!?!? (we did thank you so much for listening) Anchor's mobile website sucks and has deleted my episode description three times and I have to go to work so here's a funny anecdote to fill space: my roommate calls my Joseph Joestar cosplay scarf a "Yo Gabba Gabba scarf". I just think that's pretty funny. As always, check...

We normally cover the very worst of anime on this podcast but hey! We needed content and we were lucky to recruit a very knowledgeable guest who would be all too familiar with the kind of manga that flop hard: David from the Shonen Flop Podcast! We talked our top five bottom manga (and one light novel) and broke down what exactly just irked us about all these failures. From rom coms that don't kno...

Usually you go into dealer's rooms at cons expecting to leave with some new piece of anime merch or something of the like but sometimes you leave with some fresh new music and people you want to talk with on your podcast like how we went to Anime Weekend Atlanta a few weeks ago where we met today's guest Greshmon! Greshmon is an American rapper, actor, and streamer who is bringing (in our opinion)...

The evolution of degeneration is a tricky thing. Where, why, and when does a mind truly go mad? There's no concise answer to this (at least as far as anime fans go) but we're going to talk about Oreimo's 2nd season cause that's as close of a discussion topic, right? Right. We're joined by JD from the Anime Brothers Podcast ( CLICK HERE FOR ALL THEIR LINKS!!! ) to talk about one of his recent finis...

We just needed a reason to do this show and the reason was that Audrey wasn't here to say no. So siscon shenanigans are abound in this week's episode as it's just Matt and Matt to talk about how Matt feels about A Sister's All You Need. Does it satisfy the little sister urge or do you actually need more than just a little sister? As always, check out new episodes every Tuesday by going to our webs...

Made in Abyss got a sequel movie. We watched Made in Abyss. We watched the sequel movie thusly. I'm in the middle of my journey of self introspection so this is your description for this one. Go pour yourself a bowl of Chex Mix and milk. As always, check out new episodes every Tuesday by going to our website at www.otakumelancholy.com to see all our links including our social media and join the Di...

We're taking just three words that we get from a random word generator and trying to think up and make the hottest of seasonal anime with just those phrases! Why? Cause it felt like a good idea and we couldn't watch Dawn of the Deep Soul due to personal issues! Anyways, it's late and I'm tired. No long description this week. Be the description you want to see in this world! Imagine your own sarcas...

You would think that the shorter the anime then the quicker the suffering would be, right? Well, Bikini Warriors, an animated ad for a figure line that feels relentlessly bloated at 4 minute long per episode, would beg to differ and it is VERY good at begging. This started as a gag of a bet to watch on a previous episode and now it's here and no one is happy. We probably only really watched maybe...

Hi! How are you? That's great. I'm glad to hear that. So before we start, Ro also has a podcast called The One True Podcast and I was originally gonna say this was "feat. Ro of The One True Podcast and Storm" but that felt a little insulting to Storm so go check out The One True Podcast's links here before you even listen to this episode cause it's probably like two billion times better than our s...

The final Rebuild of Evangelion film finally decided to come out so we're gonna talk about the whole film series because we like Evangelion well enough. Some of us like it more than others but we think it's pretty cool and it's an anime that Audrey actually kind of wanted to watch so whatever gets her to watch something, you know? I have a wicked headache right now so I'm kind of at a loss for how...

Yeah, I totally used you title idea, Audrey. As we watch more and more anime in quick succession (be it willingly or not) we realize that burnout is ever looming overhead as we press on into the anime abyss. What can we do to avoid it? Can we avoid it? In this episode we break down just what you can do to dodge the bullet to the head of your anime watching hobby by not watching anime! I mean, some...

The summer is hot but the summer anime is even hotter! Yeah, not really. It's just a Matt and Amelia episode this week as they talk all about the first big chunk of seasonal anime in this episode including Remake Our Life,Mother of the Goddess' Dormitory, My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom X, How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom, Night Head 2041, Aquatope on White Sand, Miss K...

We were actually in the same room together this week so of course we had to just go ahead and jump the actual anime podcast shark and talk hentai. Why? Because the only way an episode of this much importance could be recorded was if we were hanging out in the same room and our previous plan for this special episode would take too long and we're both impatient people. Enjoy this special one-of-a-ki...

We're back on that furry shit! SEASON TWO, BABY! LET'S GO! WOAH. This season came and went! Caught all of us off guard! ...or, well, maybe not you, but it caught us at the Otaku Melancholy Podcast off guard! ...okay, maybe not everyone, but it caught *someone* off guard! But I'll never tell who, you'll just have to guess, but you won't figure it out. Not in a million years!!! .........I really try my best, but it's hard sometimes. Life gets in the way, ya...

We're celebrating pride month the only way we know how! By reviewing an LGBTQ+ positive  visual novel all about loving yourself and being good to other people! And also rehashing content. That's like what we do at this point, I think. We're talking all about A Year of Springs, a collection of three visual novels by NPCKC that include One Night, Hot Springs which we covered last year because w...

You know we have guests but have we ever had a guest who broke their foot shortly before record and STILL came on? No, we haven't. This has basically set the standard for all future guests on the show and we now require a two broken bone minimum to be on (this is a joke please don't hurt yourself we love you). We recently got to sit down and talk with Natalie London and Taylor Plecity of the LGBTQ...

What do you do when you have some masterful example of manga with a mangaka who has talents almost insurmountable in artistic quality in vision? Why you make an anime adaptation that completely butchers his work and vision while bringing his name to shame! Studio Deen sure thinks that's the way to make an anime adaptation as we celebrate the last (functioning) week of June-ji Ito Month by reviewin...

We're wrapping up our Junji Ito manga coverage (hint hint for what's coming next if you care, I guess) this week with the first of his works: Tomie! We're cut Tomie to pieces to find out what parts we like and what parts we don't and all the filler meat in between and we have some feelings. Are they good? Are they bad? I guess you'll have to listen in to find out in the episode itself. Wait. Did I...

Get your leaf village headbands and shuriken ready as we cover this Naruto spin-off, Uzumaki! I'm really looking forward into seeing how Junji Ito handles such a beloved character especially with his unique brand of horr- oh wait. I just checked the Wikipedia page and apparently this is not about ninjas and talking people to death. It's about scary spirals??? That's weird. Well, I guess we're spir...
