170125 10 Sculling Furtive 25.01.2017 4:15 ↓

2017-01-25 To perform the act of sculling is to use the oars on the water's surface. Necessary when so very close to the aforementioned Moon Pie at the port of Dubai. Dorian mode of the C Major scale. So D Dorian, but D Dorian modulating down a half step and then up a step. Twice. 3/4 time at only 115 bpm.

170120 09 Shifting the Colours 20.01.2017 2:36 ↓

2017-01-20 I shifted our colours in order to perform a false flag operation involving a Moon Pie and the port at Dubai. A Harmonic Minor once again. 5/8 (!) time at 123 bpm.

170119 08 Splicing the Mainbrace 20.01.2017 5:12 ↓

2017-01-19 This refers to shore leave, so I'm off to sell my slush... C Major Hexatonic was kind enough to create itself for this song. Common time at 125 bpm.

170118 07 Scraping the Slush 18.01.2017 3:17 ↓

2017-01-18 Our seventh song is all about making a quick buck. If you can steal away into the galley, you can scrape the slush from the storage barrels to trade with the boatswain for cigarettes. He just loves that stuff for greasing the rigging. But then what would I do with all those cigarettes? And there's also the somewhat inconvenient fact that the Oculus has neither rigging nor a boatswain. P...

170117 06 Sagging and Hogging 17.01.2017 3:34 ↓

2017-01-17 These nautical terms refer to an effect that is most pronounced in the Oculus. Makes one wonder how long it's gonna last. As in, how many more minutes... A Harmonic Minor for this one. That G# really makes a difference from A Aeolian. 6/8 time at 123 bpm.

2017-01-16 And so this is what happens when I attempt to take it easy whilst out on the sea. Mixolydian Mode gives this one its Phish-ish feel. Mixolydian Mode of C Major, which is G Mixolydian. Common time at 126 bpm.

170115 04 Swinging the Lead 16.01.2017 3:40 ↓

2017-01-15 This nautical term refers to malingering in the hopes of getting an easy task. You see, taking depth readings by swinging a lead ball was considered a relatively easy thing to be doing on a ship of yore. As it happens, I found that I'd rather be lounging that captaining, hence this one's title. Another one done in E Minor. Common time at 125 bpm.

170114B 03 Skippering 15.01.2017 3:00 ↓

2017-01-14 Piloting the Oculus is just a dream, in more ways than one. This is a Dorian Mode tune. D Dorian, to be precise, since it's in C Major. It modulates to D# Dorian and back again. 3/4 time at 123 bpm.

170114A 02 Yacht Swapping 14.01.2017 3:09 ↓

2017-01-14 Finding the 250' Schopfer Oculus to be more my speed, I proceeded to simply board one and skedaddle. It wasn't difficult to outrun absolutely everything else. Or at least look like I was doing so... This one was done in E Minor. Common time at 125 bpm.

170113 01 Yacht Shopping 14.01.2017 2:45 ↓

2017-01-13 We begin our adventure with a trip to the yacht shoppe. This tune takes us through my decision process, which ended with me settling on a 50' Cheoy Lee Lapworth. And just what did I write this one in? Phrygian Mode of the C Major scale, which makes it E Phrygian. Common time at 120 bpm.
