It was supposed to be a day all about Bob Melvin. But then Giants Chairman Greg Johnson opened his mouth.

Welcome to Episode 78 of the Garlic Fries and Baseball Guys Podcast. Giants beat writer for Sports Illustrated's Fan Nation and host of the Rizzocast Podcast Steven Rissotto joins Sam Lubman and Joe Shasky this week. The Giants got too enamored with analytics these past two years, and did so at the cost of Gabe Kaplers job. Later, it has been five years since Farhan Zaidi arrived, and it is fair t...

The Giants decided to follow the analytics. Almost too much so however, and it backfired and cost Gabe Kapler his job.

Farhan Zaidi has now been leading the Giants for five years. In some areas, the Giants are better. In a lot of other areas, things are worse.

This is a crucial offseason for the Giants and Farhan Zaidi. Perhaps too crucial an offseason to take a chance on Farhan Zaidi navigating it successfully.

Welcome to episode 77 of the Garlic Fries and Baseball Guys Podcast. A lot happened over the weekend for the San Francisco Giants. The team fired Gabe Kapler, and Sam Lubman and Joe Shasky debate whether that was really necessary. And big questions surround what is next for this team, and faith in Farhan Zaidi is at it's nadir now, and the Giants ownership is should start feeling the heat too. But...

The Giants fired Gabe Kapler in what felt like a scapegoating move by Farhan Zaidi.

Gabe Kapler is not the only one who deserves blame for the Giants disappointing season. Farhan Zaidi is here for another year, and it does not make any sense as what he can do to save his job in a year. And a finger needs to be pointed at ownership as well, as their decisions have led to this moment.

The Giants season may have ended with a thud, but that did not stop Giants fans, and Dodgers fans, from giving Forever Giant Brandon Crawford the goodbye he deserved.

The Giants had a chance to rocket themselves into the thick of the National League Wild Card Race. They failed.

After wasting a golden opportunity against the lowly Rockies in Colorado, the Giants are stuck between a playoff chase they are still in, and the playoff team they are not meant to be.

A lot needs to change for the Giants heading into next season. Lubman and Shasky talk about the things at the top of their list of changes they want to see the Giants make.

And finally, the Giants rookies are losing their shine....

Making the playoffs will not be enough for Giants fans to start believing in Farhan Zaidi again.

The Giants front office lost it's way. I has long since passed the point of no return, and a change needs to be made.

The Giants rookies have provided fans with most of the bright spots this season. But Shasky thinks they may not be as promising as we want to believe.

This does not feel like a group you run things back with. Later, Lubman and Shasky take the Giants ownership to task for keeping standards lower than that of the fanbase. And finally, the impending retirements of Brandon Belt...

The Giants look like a team going through the motions, and maybe preparing for job interviews elsewhere too.

So much blame has been assessed to Farhan Zaidi and Gabe Kapler, but no one wants to point fingers at the people who are most responsible for the situation the Giants are in: ownership.

Brandon Belt is contemplating retirement. So is Brandon Crawford. It is just another sad reminder that the dynasty days are even further and further in the rearview mirror.
