Arroe Collins Forest Stories

Thanks for being part of the conversation I am the Poet In The Forest. A children series I penned out in the 1990s. None of it would be possible if it wasn’t for this forest in South Charlotte, NC. I talk about it so much that I thought maybe it’s time you get to meet all that inspires me. Thanks for being part of the conversation

A day in the life. A six point whitetail buck visited me not once but twice on the same day. A reminder, a healer, solitude and confusion. What if this were Ukraine, Israel or Gaza? War doesn't love all living things.

The things we're moving around in our forests. Some pick up stones and throw them into the lakes and rivers. Others burn up fallen tree limbs while others love to dig up plants to replenish their yards. We're disrupting something that's been part of the story for decades. What are doing to each other?

Each year I bring plants indoors to keep them warm and protected from winter's bite. This season they seem to be yellowing. As if to be throwing a childlike fit. Are we humanizing our plants? What else is getting too much attention?

What are the chances that a person would experience not one but three eclipses in single writing book. This one came with a wish. To sink into the soul of the human heart in the way of inviting peace in a time of two wars.

When listening to music is set aside because of the presence of all things natural. Not even the crows and and hawks are screeching in the sky. Not even the rhythm of a quick chirping bright red cardinal. For now, all I have is a nice gentle cool fall breeze. You have to savor moments such as this because chaos has a key to the front door.

For 34 years two trees inside this forest have held each other tightly. In 2023 they fell to the forest floor still wrapped up in each others limbs. A love story. A forest dance.

I didn't write the stories about my parents homes because I didn't know how important it would be in these aging years. Nobody truly knows the journey of this forest except for the poet that's endlessly felt the love of every living creation in it through avenues of creativity. It's time for you to begin a path of story sharing. Let the world know about the soil that which you share every morning...

I've been a part of this forest since 1992. Two things that stand out are the infamous dancing trees. Two trees that caught each other on the hillside during Hurricane Hugo.

I often wonder if family and friends return to the areas where a loved ones ashes were spread. If we don't return does that mean we've let them go?
